Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM HENRY ALLEN, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 24 Hatfield road, Birchficlds, Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, England, have invented a new and useful Garment-Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

This invention has for its object the pro vision of an improved button fastener for use principally on trousers and similar articles of wearing apparel in which fashion decrees the formation of a central crease down each leg thereof whereby, when not in use, the trousers may be folded in the desired creases and maintained in such position by the improved buttons. These buttons are also applicable for use as a means of attachment for the braces in the usual manner.

The improvements according to this invention reside in a button fastener composed of two separate integers, a male and a female, with means in connection with each whereby engagement between the two may be attained when ger being so formed as to be capable of use as a means of attachment for the usual braces and adapted, when in use, to be disposed one above each'crease on the trouser legs for the purpose of maintainingsuch members folded in their respective creases when not in use.

Referring to the drawings Figure 1. illustrates a pair of trousers provided with button fasteners according to this invention.

The female portion Z) shown in Figs. 3 and 5 is in the shape of a dish and is stamped from a single piece of metal. The upper edge of this dish is inturned to .form a lip c which extends completely therearound and forms a protection for a blade spring (Z disposed therebeneath and within the dish.

This spring (Z is supported in spaced relation to the base of the dish by projections e, which if desired may be substituted for a continuous or split ring, and is formed with a plurality of waves which produce a series of inwardly extending loops 7 each of which project to a slight extent beyond the inner edge of the lip a.

The base of the dish is formed with the usual centrally disposed protuberance 9 having a series of apertures h therein through which the thread or the like is passed when attaching the portion of the button to the garment.

The male portion a, see Figs. 4 and 6, is similarly constructed from a single piece of metal as the female portion above described, but is of a smaller diameter it being so proportioned as to readily enter the aperture formed by the edge of the lip c.

Extending around the circumference of this male portion is a rectangular or other shaped groove 2', which is formed by the spaced beads j and 70 extending around the upper and lower edges of the portion a respectively.

The protuberance g in the male portion is disposed opposite to that in the female portion, and in accordance required to be of slightly greater dimensions as will readily be seen from a comparison of the figures.

In operation the male portion a is pressed into contact with the female portion 6, with the result that the forward bead j forces the loops 7 outward and allows the male portion to be pressed completely home, when the loops 7 spring back again into place and en gage the groove z" in such position. In the example illustrated by Figs. 7 to 9 the spring at is obviated, the female portion 6 being provided instead with aplurality of radial cuts or slots Z arranged at equal distances around itsedge.

In construction the Theexample illustrated in Figs. 10 to 12 differs from that illustrated in Figs. 7 to 9 in that the lip a, on the female portion, is turned inward all around as to point vertically downward, and is shallower than the fellow portion in such previous example. The male portion is splayed and is formed all around with a slightly upturned lip, the outside diameter of which is in excess of that of the inside diameter of the mouth of the female portion.
