Description

JOHN. SULLIVAN.
Chamber Vessels.
No. 22,741. Patentedlame, 1872* M11-RNW u if, fg
UNrrED STATES PATENT UEEIGE.,
JOHN SULLIVAN, OF THORNTON, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHAMBER-VESSELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,741, dated January 16, 1872.
To lwhom it may concern:
Beit known thatI, J oHN SULLIVAN, of Thornton, in the county of Simcoe and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a N oiseless Micturating Attachment to Chamber-Pots; and l do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device applied to a chamber-pot, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same on the line .ou x in Fig. l.
Like letters refer to like parts in each tigure.
The nature of this invention relates to a device to be attached to an ordinary chamberpot which will serve as a cover and render the implement less objectionable in use 5 the invention consists in the peculiar device hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents an ordinary chamber-pot with my improvement attached. The said invention consists essentially of an annular rim or iiange, a, which rests 011 the flange ofthe pot. From the inner edge ofthe rim a depends a pit, b, of the general form of an inverted cone, and provided with a sloping or inclined bottom, c. From the deepest part of the pit a flattened spout, d, broad and shallow, projects laterally, so that, when the device is 0in place, the end of this spout will be very near the wall of the pot. At that part of the rim which is opposite the spout I form a handle, e, which may be curved down under the iic nge of the pot, rst, to afford a convenvent lateral displacement. 'lhe attachment may be made of sheet metal, china, brown or white earthenwa-re, or any other suitable material, and may be varied in shape to iit the various forms ot' chamber-pots in market; or, if the latter be specially designed to receive the attachment, they may be provided with an internal flange and guide-stops to receive the pit, in which case the i'lan ge a of the latter maybe dispensed with.
When a ch amber-pot is specially designed to embody my improvement it may be in the form of an inclined diaphragm terminating atv the lowest point in the iiattened nozzle or spout, the whole formed in one piece.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein described chamber-pot attachment, consisting essentially ot' the pit b c provided u'ith the flattened spout d and iiange a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The herein-described attachment a b c d, provided with the handle e and guide or guides f, as and for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: JOHN SULLIVAN.
