To all whom may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN L. NYE, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Oelrichs, in the county of Fall River and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Gulf-Link Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in guards for link buttons of cuffs.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a guard which may be quickly and conveniently applied to the cuff and secured in the buttonhole thereof and which will engage the post of the cuff link so as to prevent accidental disconnection of the cuif link from the cuff.
vWith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cuff equipped with a cuff link guard constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the guard removed from the cuff.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the guard.
Fig. 4f is a plan view of the guard.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, l designates a substantially U-shaped clasp. Mounted in the clasp l is a substantially U- shaped spring 2. One leg of the spring is fixed to the corresponding leg of the clasp, while formed in the other leg of the clasp is a slot 3 and pivoted in the slot 3 at the outer end thereof is a lever 4 having the pivoted end formed with a right angularly projecting lug 5 adapted to bear against the adjacent leg of the spring 2 so as to force such leg of the spring toward the other leg when the levend is swung into the slot 3. On the other hand, when the lever is swung in the reverse direction, the leg of the spring 2 is relieved of the infiuence of the lug so that such leg may move away from the other leg to open the clasp. In the present instance, the outer end of the lug 5 is formed with a teat 6 that works in a slot 7 formed in the spring.
In accordance with my present invention, the central portion of the clasp l is formed with an outwardly projecting guard arm 8 that has its outer end portion bent at right angles to itself as at 9 and then bent again at right angles to the portion 9 as at l0. The end of the bent portion l0 is spaced apart from the central member of the clasp so that the post of the link may be inserted in the hook-like arm. The outer end of the lever 4: is formed with an outwardly proj ecting finger 11 designed to overlie the space between the end of the hook-like arm and the body of the clasp so as to close such space and prevent the accidental disconnection of the clasp from the post to the button. l
In practice, the post of the cufl" link is passed through the buttonholes in the cuif, as usual. One leg of the'clasp l is now slipped through one of the buttonholes in the cuff so that the legs of the clasp may be disposed upon the respective sides of the cuff. The post of the cuff button is now slipped through the space between the end of the hook-like arm and the clasp and into such hoololike arm, and the lever swung into the slot 3, thereby actuating the spring 2 to clamp the cuff and the linger l1 to close the space between the end of the hook-like arm and the body of the clasp. Thus, the culf link is locked to the cuff.
I claim:
A cuff link guard comprising a substantially U-shaped clasp engaging the cuff at the button hole therein, means for locking said clasp to the cuit', a'hook like arm integral with said clasp to receive the post of the link and extending across the button hole, and means on said rst named means coperating with said hook-like arm to close the clasp in the hook whereby accidental disconnection of the hook like arm from the post is prevented.
