SPRING-HOOK COLLAR-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 1916.
Application filed September 1, 1915. Serial No. 48,546.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MIGUEL RUELAs, a citizen of the Mexican Republic, residing in Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Spring-Hook Collar-Button.
This invention relates to improvements in collar buttons, one object of the invention being the provision of a spring lever hook collar button, which draws together the ends of the collar during the buttoning of the collar to the shirt band, such hook being so constructed as to normally look the collar in position.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a collar button which has a fixed member for fitting in the buttonholes of the shirt band and collar, while journaled in the free end thereof is a cam hook for disposition through the buttonholes, and for operation to direct the overlapping ends of the collar in place, there being provided a spring to hold the hook in its two extreme positions that is extended to project through the buttonholes, or collapsed to look the collar in place.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a collar button, which is simple, durable and inexpensive to manufacture which is thoroughly eflicient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete button with the hook extended. Figs. 2, 3 and 4 illustrate the method of using the hook in locking the last flap of the collar in place. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a collar with the button in locked position. Fig. 6 is a section through the button showing the springs action upon the hook.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 7 designates the base of the button which carries the two lugs 8, which constitute the shank of the button, these lugs being spaced and provided with apertures 9 for the reception of the pin 10, upon which is journaled the setting and locking member 11. This member 11 is a substantially C-shaped hook, and is provided with the cam end 12, against which bears the spring 13 mounted in the base between the lugs 8, and bearing against the end 12 so that the member 11 will nor mally be held in the positions as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The other end of the member 11 is provided with the knob 14, which when the button is in starting position as shown in Fig. 2, with the first flap 15 of the collar 16 upon the shank, fits in the button hole of the overlapping flap 17 of the collar. The member 11 is then pulled upon to assume the positions successively as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, during which time the flap 17 is drawn into place and the buttonhole thereof deposited about the shank and upon the flap 15 of the collar. The spring will hold the knob 14 tightly upon the collar beyond the flap 15 as shown in Fig. 4, and thus prevent the accidental unfastening of the collar.
Vith this collar button, it is not necessary to spread or open the buttonhole, as is the case with a round or ball knob button, as the member 11 is flat and easily inserted through both buttonholes.
It is apparent with a button constructed according to and embodying the present invention that a collar is more easily secured to the shirt band, and after once secured remains until it is easily released by merely flipping the member 11 to assume the reverse positions of Figs. 2, Sand 4.
WVhat I claim as new is A collar button, including a sheet metal base, two upstanding spaced lugs carried by the base and projecting from one side thereof, a flat spring carried by the base end extending between the lugs, the upper ends of said lugs being provided with alined apertures, a piece of flat metal formed to pro vide a substantially C-shaped body portion having a short pointed terminal and a long knobbed terminal, the body of said member nearer to the pointed terminal being provided with an opening, and a pin piercing the openings of the lug and C-shaped memher for pivotally supporting said member so that the pointed end thereof may engage and release the spring, as and for the purpose set forth.
MIGUEL RUELAS.
