Description

H. A. FISHER.
Cuff-Button.
No. 226,736. Patented April 20,1880.
WITNESSES %Z2 y ATTORNEYS N. FEIERS. FHOT UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
HART A. FISHER, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
CUFF-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,736, dated April 20, 1880.
Application filed October 17, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HART A. FISHER, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the construction. of cufl' or other buttons; and it consists in certain peculiarities of devices for inserting and fastening the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a bottom view, Fig. 2 a section, and Fig. 3 a'detail view, of a button embodying my invention.
.Fig. 4 is a side view, and Fig. 5 a section, of
a button, showing amodification of my invention. Fig. 6 is a perspective. view, showing still another modification.
The body of the button is composed of a cup, A, with a disk or plate, B, placed therein and forming the face of the button. Within the cup, below the plate B, is placed a spring, 0, which holds said plate up against-aflange, a, on the cup.
From the bottom of the cup A projects a short hollow post, b, through which passes a post, (1, swiveled to the plate B. To the end of the hollow post I) is attached a wing, D, and a similarwing, D, is attached to the end of the post d.
By pressing down upon the faceplate B the wing D will get sufficiently far below the wing D so that it can be turned, and both win'gs then lie flat together, in which position they are easily passed through the button-holes.
The wing D is then swung around till the two wings stand in opposite directions, when the spring will hold the parts in position.
In Figs. 4: and 5 I have shown a button in which the hollow post I) is dispensed with, the post d passing through a holein the bottom of the cup. The end of the post d is slotted or forked, and in the same is pivoted a pin, d, which forms an extension of the post and can be turned at right angles to it by pressing down the face-plate. .It will be noticed that when thus turned it cannot be swung back without pressing down the face-plate, and hence the button is not liable to be lost.
In Fig. 6 I have shown the post d flat and a bifurcated plate, D hinged thereto at 00, which operates inprecisely the same manner.
In all cases the spring-pressure is thesame,
and the button-fastening cannot be turned without first pressing down the face-plate. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the cup A, face-plate B, spring 0, and post 01, with a fastening device connected thereto, substantially as herein set forth.
2. The combination, with the button A B, arranged as shown, and spring 0, of the hollow post I), with wing D, and the swiveled post d, with wing D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim. the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of September, 1879.
