UNITED STATES PATENT clarion oHAnLs LnoPoL'n s'roHs AND GUsTAvE nf FUNKE, or MTLWAUKEE, Wisconsin.
FLUID-RECEPTACLE.
To all whom t may concern: v
Be it knownl ,that we, CHARLS LEOPOLD S'roHs .and Gusravn R FUNKE, citizens of the UnitedStates, residing at the city of Milwaukee, :county of Milwaukee,l and State of 'Wisconsim have invented new and useful Improvements :in Fluid-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
ur inventionrelates to improvements in fluid receptacleaand it pertains to that class which are formed'of a single piece of fibrous material, (paper, cardboard or the like) so creased that the same may be shipped to the consumer i-n a compact formin fiat unfolded sheets, whereby the material .f r a large number of receptaclesl may be packed, shipped andstored in small s ace, and any one of said sheets readily refo ed by an inexperienced user into the desired shape for storing o r shipping milk or the like.
The construction of our invention is explained by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents one of the sheets, the
dotted lines of which indicate the creases at which the same is adapted to be folded to form the receptacle.
lFig. 2 is a plan view of our device as it appears during the process of folding. l Fig. 3 is aperspective View. of our receptac e vas it appears when completely folded. Fig. 4 represents a perspective view of our device, the front wall beingrernoved to disclose vthe interior, and
Fig. 5 is a central vertical section of af completed receptacle. l
Like parts are referred to by the same reference numerals throughout the several views.
1 represents a sheet of fibrous material (paper, cardboard or the like) which, as shown in Fig. 1has been folded and heavily creased upon the dotted lines 2, 3', 4', 5, 6', 7', s', 9', 10', 11', 12', 1e', 14.', 15', 16' and 17 whereby the same is readily folded, as stated, bythe' user preparatory to forming the same into a Huid aperture 3 is formed therein. 'L is a metallicfbttom, provided with angular bends or flanges 5 and 6, by which flanges it is pernanently secured to the vertical walls of the receptacle. The clamping flanges 5 and 6 xerve to retain the receptacle in its folded Specification of Letters Patent.
1n the ordinary manner. the .receptacles thus formed comprise' five at their centers'and .inner sheet ext creased lsaid receptacle,

shape, as shown in 5. The aperture 3 is adaptedto be closed sheets 9, three sheets 10 one sheet 11 at their upper ends, while the 'nds down to the bottom 'of said receptacle, has a plane unbroken surface.
When the bottom member 4 is secured in place the clamping members 5 and 6 are sub,- jected to a heavy pressure, whereby they are forced toward each other and against the opposing surface of the paper or cardboard, thereby lforming a' liquid tight joint between such parts. Apliquid tight joint is also formed between said cap or cover"8jfandV the upper end of said by the cap or cover 8l The side walls of 4 whereby the interior thereof v7oreceptacle, whereby the contents of said receptacle is securely f retained therein. The receptacle when complete is preferably submerged in an adhesive iquid, whereby the parts of the materialof which such receptacle impervious to liquid.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. In a device ofthe described class, a receptacle formed of material, which sheet has been previously preparatory to being folded into the desired shape, a metallic bottom 'member provided with an angular groove, the vertical sides of which are rigidly clamped to two opposing sidesof the vertical walls of is formed becomes' opposite end of l metallic bottom, and. a cap? adapted to close said aperture, said receptacle when formed comprising at its a singlesheet of fibrous an aperture formed inthe said receptacle from said lower end a plurality of thicknesses of materlal, at its upper end a single thickness'of material, and a pluralityi of thicknesses of material at intermediate points' between its respective ends.
2. In ardevice of the described class, a receptacle formed ofa single sheet ofibrous material, which sheet has been previously creased preparatory to being folded intol the desired shape, a `metallic bottom member provided with an angular oove, the vertical sides of which are rigidly/clamped to two opposing sides of the vertical walls of said "receptacle, anJ apertureformed in the opposite end of said'receptacle from said In testimony whereof we. aix our signa-- metallic bottom, and :L cap adapted to close tures in the presence of two Witnesses.
said aperture, said receptacle when formed C. LEOPOLD STOHS,
comprlsing at its lower end ve thicknesses GUSTAVE R. FUNKE. '5 of material, at its center three sheets, and Wlitnesses: l
at its upper end one thickness, substantially J As. B. ERWIN,
