SAMUEL'ROWLAND PARKES, OF WILLELNHALL, ENGLAND.
CASE FOR SASH PULLEYS, LOOKS, OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 191?.
Application filed February 25, 1916. Serial No. 80,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL ROWLAND PARKES, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Pretoria Works, New Road, Villenhall, in the county of Stafford, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cases for Sash Pulleys, Locks, or the like; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention comprises improvements in cases for sash pulleys, locks, and the like, and in the manufacture of the same, and refers to that class of such in which the easing' is formed in two parts or with one side detachable and secured together with the pulley or like mechanism disposed intermediate between the two sides.
According to this invention the casing is manufactured from two blanks of sheet metal each of which formsone side of the casing being provided with abutment p0rtions for retaining the two parts at the required distance apart, the two parts of the casing being held together by a rivet or rivets while the extremities of the face portion of the casing which fits within or upon the surface of the edge of the door or window frame or the like overlap so that the screw which secures the casing to the wood work assists in retaining the two parts of the casing in their required relationship.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1. is a front view of a sash pulley and its casing according to this invention.
Figs. 2 and 3. are elevations of opposite sides of the casing.
Figs. & and 5. are perspective views of the component parts of the casing the latter including the pulley.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in one form of the invention as applied to a casing for containing sash pulleys a blank of sheet metal is formed and bent to provide a part a of substantially semi-circular form, adapted to fit against one side of the pulley, the edge of this semicircular part being turned up for a short distance to provide abutment portions a a (see Fig. 4:) this turned up flange projecting to the center of the complete casing.
The straight edge of this semi-circular part is turned over at right angles to form a flange a which constitutes the face portion of the casing, this face portion also having end extending portions a a which project for the full width of the face part. Thus when two of these blanks are placed vtogether and the aforementioned abutments be recessed or folded back as at an to receive.
the overlapping portions of the other part of the case.
The pulley b which may be pressed from steel may be supported in the case by a simple rivet a passing through the two sides of the case and supporting the pulley in position the rivet serving also to retain the pulley at the required distance apart. This rivet pin may form a simple plain bearing with the pulley, or if desired a ball bearing may be provided at this point.
The overlapping extremities of the face portion of the case may be riveted together if desired as at d or a connection between these parts may be effected only by the pulley supporting rivet or screws which serve to mount the casing in the window frame.
The invention may be similarly applied to a lock casing in which case the pin for mounting the pulley wheel. may be replaced by a simple rivet or rivets which may or may not form part of .or support a part of the lock mechanism.
What I claim then is A case for sash pulleys comprising a pair of side members, abutments formed along the edges of said side members adjusted to hold said side members in spaced relationship, a sash pulley positioned between said side members, a pintle passing through said sides and supporting the pulleys, a casing face being formed integral with said side members, the extremity of one half thereof being pressed back out of the main plane of the same to an extent equal to the thickness of the metal so that when the two 7 halves are placed together the Whole of the In testimony whereof I aflix my signature back presents a flat surface, the overlapping in presence of two Witnesses. ends of these side members being provided SAMUEL ROWLAND PARKES with openings adapted to receive screws adapted to connect the Whole of the parts Witnesses:
of the casing together and further serving FRANCIS CHARLES MOUNTNEY, to secure the casing in applied position. BRUCE ALBERT READ.
