To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, EDWARD C. BEnNnns, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Two Rivers, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing-Receptacles for Mucilage; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in that type of self sealing receptacles for holding and dispensing mucilage and the like and including a protective handle casing.

One important object of the present invention is to provide a means for initially sealing the receptacle which is not affected by accidental flexufe of the distributor hood, to permit possible leakage of fluid in transit, but which may be readily broken when desired and which whenbroken forms a no obstruction to the ready distribution of fluid from the receptacle.

Another object is toprovide an exceedingly simple and more efficient means for frictionally holding the receptacle in the casing which may be readily incorporated with the casing during its manufacture.

- With the above and other advantages in view the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, arrangement and formation of parts more particularly hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

casing including its projectedsleeve portion 6 whereby the mouth end of the receptacle extends outwardly of the sleeve p0rtion.

This mouth end of the receptacle isprovided with a circumscribing bead b over which is stretched the open end of a hood 9 similar to the head of my said previous application, and provided with similar radial slits 10. In the present structure, however, a novel means of initially sealing the container is provided which comprises a sheet of waxed paper, or other fragile ma terial impervious to moisture, which is placed over the mouth of the receptacle with its edges bent thereabout to form sub stantially a cap and which is retained in its place by the binding engagement of the adjacent end of the distributer about its edges.

This form of seal is not affected by possible accidental flexure of the hood, such as might occur in transit, and the seal is adapted to be broken by grasping the hood adjacent the bead 8, and imparting a partial rotation thereto whereby the paper is ruptured to permit passage of fluid therethrough, subsequent sealings of the receptacle between successive dispensing operations being procured in the usual manner by the mucilage drying in the slits 10. Thus there is no tendency for mucilage to dry in the fissures of the broken paper seal member to procure a possible sealing at that point.

To provide an improved means for frictionally holding the receptacle in the easing, a pin 12 is passed transversely through the sleeve at one side of its axis, and has a head 13 at one end and its other end bent at- 14 to lie along the outer surface of the sleeve, this bent portion forming what also may be termed a head. This pin is incorporated with the sleeve prior to its insertion into the casing proper 5, and thus a construction is procured which forms no obstruction in the casing. The receptacle is insertedbetween the pin and the opposite side of the sleeve and the proper frictional pressure is procured by a resilient flexure of the pin and of the adjacent wall portions of the sleeve.

It is also noted that the sleeve holds the lower portion of the receptacle spaced from the sides of the casing and that the open end of the hood fits in the sleeve to protect the mouth end of the receptacle against jar.

In the commercial application of this invention it has been found expedient to use the friction holding structure illustrated more particularly in Fig. 4, and in this structure the pin member 15 is U-shaped in the form of a staple and has its arms passed transversely through the sleeve between it and the main casing 5 and with the outer ends of its arms bent as shown at 16 to extend between the sleeve and casing in the manner of the end let of the pin 12, to thus provide for the secnrement of both ends ()ili each oi. the arms, the receptacle 8 being passed between the arms. This structure holds the receptacle thus positively spaced from the casing as well as holding it frictionally against displacement and the staple pin member here illustrated maybe associated with the sleeve by various existing types of machines now on the commercial market.

As in the said previous application the casing forms a protective covering and a handle for the receptacle proper and is only adapted to be detached When it is desired to heat the receptacle so as to thin its contents to procure a more ready flow thereof in cold weather in which instance the receptacle would be preferably placed in hot water.
