BOTTLE COLLAR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 657,327, dated September 4, 1900. Application filed July 14, 1899. Serial No. 723,778. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, (Brooklyn,) county of Kings, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle-Collars, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

Myinvention consists of an improved construction of a bottle collar which is constructed of bibulous material and adapted to be placed around the neck of a bottle to absorb and prevent the drip and moisture from running down the outside of the bottle in the act of emptying the latter, said collar being provided with a fastening device of novel construction transversely secured thereto and consisting of material which will be unafiected by moisture.

It further consists of novel details of construct-ion, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a bottle-collar embodying my invention and a bottle to which the same is applicable. Fig. 2 represents a plan view of a bottle-collar seen in Fig. 1 in detached position. Fig. 3 represents a bottle-collar, showing another form of fastening. Fig. 4 represents a modification.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a bottle-collar which is composed of suitable bibulous material, such as blotting-paper or other similar absorbent material, which absorbs the drip resulting when the bottle is righted after being inverted or-tipped in the act of emptying. The collar is adaptedto be fastened around the neck of a bottle in such a manner that it may be easily removed when soiled, and its ends are so fastened together that they will remain in position and yet be loose from the bottle. collar is provided with the fastening device B, which has a body portion provided with the pins 0, which are adapted to be clenched upon the COIl&1,WhI16 the tabs Dbefore bende ing appear as in Fig. 2 and serve to retain One end of the the ends of the collar in juxtaposition when the parts are assembled, as seen in Fig. 1, it being seen that the ends of said collar are caused to overlap and are held in j uxtaposition by means of said tabs, which are bent or clenched upon the outer overlapping portion of the collar, as will be understood from Fig. 1.

It will be seen that by the provision of my novel fastening device there is no necessity of gluing the collar to the neck of the bottle, and the ends can be fastened together, so that the collar will remain in place and yet will be loose from the neck of the bottle.

In the construction seen in Fig. 3 I show thefastening device as composed of a strip having the tabs E, the same being held in position by in cans of a strip F,while said tabs are adapted to be bent in substantially the same manner as the ends D,and thus clenched upon the adjacent portions of the collar.

In Fig. 4 I have shown the collar as adapted to be held in position by a drop of adhesive material unaffected by moisture.

It will of coursebe evident that the bottlecollar may be printed or blank, and it may also, if desired, be of such a color as to correspond with the contents of the bottle.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A bottle-collar, consisting of a strip of bibulous or absorbent material, and devices upon one end portion thereof extending transversely thereto. and adapted to engage and secure the other and overlapping end portion of the strip.

2. A bottle-collar, consisting of a strip of bibulous or absorbent material, and fastening devices at one end portion thereof extending transversely to said strips and consisting of laterally-projecting flexible tabs having their ends adapted to be bent over and clenched upon the other and overlapping end portion of the strip.
