IMPROVEMENT IN BED-LOUNGES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,469, dated January 2, 1872.
.I, FRANCIS H. LAMB, of Ravenna, in the county of Portage, and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Bed-Loun ges, of which the following is a specication:
The nature and object of my invention is a bedlou11ge,which, when closed is a lounge with the seat upholstered on the top and bottom, andwhen open is a bed, upholstered only on the top. The seat is in two parts, so attached together, ilexibly, at the back of the lounge that in opening the lounge to form a bed, by lifting the upper part of the seat and drawing it to the front of the lounge the lower part of the seat is caused to turn over on its axis on which it rests. The lower part is upholster-ed on the bottom when the lounge is closed, so that in making half a revolution when openin g the upholstered side is brought to the top, formn g a bed as high as the lounge. A leg is attached to each front corner of the upper part of the seat, resting lengthwise in each end of the seat when closed, and when open they support the front corners of the bed.

A is the upper part of the seat of the lounge,
and B is the lower part. C is a strap or loop, attached to the back of the seat to lift by when changing the lounge to a bed. D is one oi' two boxes or sockets, in which the part B rests and is turned over; the other box is at the head of the lounge. These boxes are tted in the top of the frame so that the part B hangs below them when the lounge is closed, and is above them when it is open, and are covered by the seat A when the bed is closed, as shown in Fig. l. The part B turns inside of the frame of the lounge. The legs E E, when the lounge is closed, are turned up so as to rest horizontallyfin the ends of the seat A. F is one of the hinges by which the two parts of the seat are attached together, and by means of which,
the part B is turned over, when the seat A is lifted and drawn forward, as shown in Fig. 3.
