Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Apr. 1 '7, 1917.
Application died October 16, 1916. Serial in. 125,961.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ,ARTHUR L. WALKER, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hoopeston, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Holders for Whetstones,-of which the following is aspecifi'cation.
My invention is an improvement in hold-. and has'for its object to provide a device of the characterfi specified, capable of attachment to a table, wall, or
other fixed support, and having means for holding the stone firmly in proper position for engagement by the blade of a knife or other tool to sharpen the said knife or tool.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective viewof the improvement in use. g Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder,
Fig. 3 is a partial front elevation of the holder.
In the present embodiment ofthe invention the improved holder,
from sheet metal of suitable size, comprises a plane body portionl, having at each end lugs 2 for engaging the ends of the stone, to thebody, and having at each side of each end other lugs 3 and 4, respectively, for alike purpose. Y
The lugs 3 and 4 which are formed by bending up portions of the metal are at opposite ends of the body, and thelu s 4 which are adjacent to that endwhic 'is attached to the fixed support are bent inwardl at their upper ends to overlie the stone 'mdicated at 5. At each side edge, and I at the end adj acent to the lugs 2 and 4, the of the holder has downwardly, bent flanges toms with the holder between the' lugs 2. and 3. It
which is formed stone and 6, which are provided at their .botoutwardly bent portions 7 having openings 8 or the like for the'passage'of a securing means to connect the holder to a fixed support, as, for'instance, a table, indicated at 9.
Theflanges 6 are approximately triangular in shape, being of least width adjacent to the lugs 4, and of greatest width at the opposite end, and it will be evident that when the outwardly bent portions 7 are secured to a fixed support, the holder 1 and the stone 5 thereon will be supported in inclinedposition, and in a convenient position for engagement by the edge of the blade to sharpen the, same. The stone is placed in by inserting thatend which carries the paper label beneath the lugs 4, and dropping the stone in position on the body I will be understood that in practice the improved holder may be cast or otherwiseformed.
I'claim:
A'holder of the character specified, com-I prising a plane body portion for receiving a having means at its opposite ends for engaging the stone to hold the same on the bgdy, said holder having atone end means for securing the holder to a fixedsup-
