Description

Nov. 12, 1935. H. w. MOFFITT BUNDLE HOLDE R Filed Jan. 22, 1955 2 Sheets-Sheet l I I g\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\Y\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\% Inventor 1935. H. w. MOFFl-TT BUNDLE HOLDER Filed Jan. 22, 1955 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 NA a Attorney Patented Nov. 12, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements to bundle holders and more particularly to a holder which eliminates the use of straps and other cumbersome retaining elements.
5 The principal object of the present invention is to provide a bundle holder adapted for holding letters and other small packages wherein the packages will be retained in a manner to permit their releasement readily.
10 During the course of the following specification and claim other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawings:
15 Figure 1 represents a perspective View of the device.
Figure 2 represents a cross sectional View through the device.
Figure 3 represents a perspective View with the 20 top plate removed.
Figure 4 represents a cross sectional view through the device taken along the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
The holder consists of the base plate 5 and 25 the frame like riser 6 on the base at the edge portion thereof, the frame-like riser having a break I therein at one end as shown in Figure 3.
A back plate 8 is secured at one end of the base and extends upwardly as shown in Figure 3, while 30 a sidewall 9 is provided and extends upwardly from one longitudinal edge of the base.
A pair of large pulley wheels ll I are rotatably mounted on the base adjacentone longitudinal edge thereof, and in addition to this there is a 35 smaller pulley l2 mounted upon the base at the break 1' and a large pulley wheel l3 mounted in another corner as shown in Figure 3, all these pulleys being mounted upon the base.
An elongated coiled spring l l having one end 40 anchored as at l'extends around the pulley l0 and around the pulley H' and is further trained around the pulleys I3 and I2 to connect at its opposite end to theslide plate l6 which is providedwith an L-shaped post ll rigidly secured at its lower portion to the plate I 5 as shown. The base is provided with a cleat- 8 with which the pivoted spring catch i9 is engageable to retain the post in inoperative position, while packages 5 are being placed in position to be subsequently clamped between the post I! and back plate 8.
Upon the riser 6 are laid and secured two plates 20-20 in such close proximity as to leave a slideway 2i along which the post I! can slide. 10 Obviously the post I'll can be drawn back and the catch l9 engaged with the cleat or member I8 on the base while letters are being placed upon the plates 2020 after which the catch I9 can be released and the post will ride against the bundles and retain the same firmly in place.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size, materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is:
A holder for packages comprising a hollow base, a slidable post on the base, an upstanding wall on the base, means in the base for urging the post toward the Wall, said base being provided with a slot in which the lower portion of the post is slidable, said means including an elongated spring element anchored at one end to the base, a plurality of pulleys in the base, a pair of said pulleys being located at one end of the base, another pair of said pulleys being located at the opposite end of the base with one at each side of said slot, said. spring element being disposed over one of the pulleys of thefirst mentioned pair and back to train over the pulleys of the last mentioned pair, and toward the opposite end of the base to pass around the. remaining pulley of the first 4.0 mentioned pair to extend back and connect to the lower end of the post at its remaining end.
