vBearings, of which the following is a full,
clear, concise, and exact description, refer- `ence being had to the accompanying"draw-` ings, forming a part of this specification.
This inventionrelates to improvements in anti-friction center bearings.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive anti-friction center bearing for railway cars and so arranged that the position of theYanti-frictjon membersis constantly -shiited relatively to.the bearing surfaces with which they engage to thereby minimize wear.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure-1 is a vertical, sectional view taken' longitudinally of a car, and showing my improvements vinterposed be, tween the body a`nd truck holsters. Fig. 2 is a horizontal, sectional view taken sub. stantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig.
4'substantially on the line 3-3 of Figf. And Fig. 4 is a detail perspective of one of the checks employed with my improvemerits. l
In said draw-ing, 10 denotes the body bolster of a gnar, 11 the truck bolster and 12 the cen'ter pin by which the same are swivell'y connected. Secured to the upper face of the truck bolster 11 is a lower bearsi e` of the body-ibo sieimis--seeuredthe uper bearin plate or casting 14. 21 and having inter posed therebetween and the upper edge of 1he ange 16, a ring of fiber packing 22.
The anti-friction :nechanism proper, comlprises a lower annilararf'plate 23, an upper annular wear plate 24, a folding plate 25, an upper"series of anti-friction rollers 26,a lower series of anti-friction rollers 27, a` series of ehocks 28 coperable with the up. per series of rollers 26, and a lower series ofschocks 29 coperzble with the lower series of rollers 27. The wear'plate 23 is right angular in cross se ction with the vertical {iange 30 thereof )utermost The upper wear plate 24 is als) right angular in 4cross section but with the.v vertical flange 31 extending downwardly 'and on the inner side. The intermediate 0:."loating plate 25 is Z shape in cross section .with the outer ange 32 extending upwar llyA and the inner flange 33 extending dowr: wardly. By= this construction of the inte rmcdiate plate 25 it will be noted that I obta n great strengthagainst bending moments applied vent/ieally, thereto4 whichpermits m( tonemploy fewer rollers without @ngenofft' ie intermediate plate, 25 hecomigbentm l v By referring to Fig. 3, it will be notedv that the shocks' 28 are provided at their lower left hand (.orners with relatively sharp extensions 34 which extend under the rollers 26 at the left hand ends thereof. The lower chocks 2S are provided with relatively sharp extensions 35 at their lower right hand corners ind vv vhich extend under` the rpllers ,27-l at zheirV right hand ends. 'Frein this it will 'ee seen that the upper rollers 26 are permftted rotation to theleft only, whereas the rollers 27 4are permitted rotation to the righ" only, as viewed in Fig.
8. In view of the foregoing arrangement,
it is apparent that the rollers 26 and 27 will be constantly shifted relatively .to.their respective bearing plates and always irf the same direction, that is, the upper series will be shifted in aclo kwise direction and the lower series in a co'lnterclockwise direction,
when looking down u on the bearin ,It
also follows that the mtermediatejo ding plate 25 will be com tantly shifted in a coun,-
terclockwise direction."
I claim:""`
