V PORTABLE LOADER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 14, 1916. Serial No. 114,731.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYcUncUs W. Mon'rnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Loaders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to portable loaders which may be put to any one of a number of uses. My loader is particularly adaptable in picking fruit or vegetables or corn, in which case it may be placed upon the ground and the articles tossed or placed upon it until a sufficient quantity has been gathered. Then, the handles may be grasped and the entire structure transported.
The main object of this invention resides in so shaping the longitudinal supports that a receiving base is formed, which is concaved in all directions, thus causing whatever article may be placed upon it, to tend to roll toward the centerof the loader as a whole.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown 'in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts, and in which:
Figure 1 is a View in perspective showing my loader in a position suspended above the ground,
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same, and,
Fig. 3 is a same.
In these several views, there is shown a pair of side supports designated 1, which may be formed of pipe or bars as may be desired. The essential feature in forming view in side elevation of the these supports is that the portions .intermediate the ends, should be slightly concaved such as is shown at 2. In the present case, I have formed handles 3 on the ends of each of the bars, by giving them a sharp bend, as is shown. To these side supports there is then'attached a flexible supporting member 4:, which member may be sewed or removably secured along the edges shown at 5, as may be desired.
By forming the side supports concaved at 2, the natural tendency of these bars is to pivot slightly about the handle portions 3 when these handles are grasped for trans portation, so that the concaved portions will beswung inwardly to a slight extent, as is indicated in Fig. 2, which in turn causes the supporting member 4 to assume a shape which is concaved inall directions. .This prevents whatever goods may be placed on the same from rolling or falling ofl of the same.
Thus, it will be apparent that I have provided a very simple type of loader, but which is nevertheless very effective in supporting the goods.
What I claim, is:
1; A portable loader ofthe character described comprising a pair of side supports carrying handles on each end and concaved intermediate said handle portions, and a flexible receiving member attached to said supports at the concaved portions;
2. A portable loader of the character described comprising a pair of side supports each formed of a single bar or rod shaped to present handles on each end and a concaved portion between handles, and a flexible receiving member attached along opposite edges to said supports between their handles.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
