To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THEOPHILE'EUPHRAT, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Norwalk, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Shade-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to shade holders for incandescent lamps and has for its object to provide a device of this character which shall be simple and inexpensive to produce, easily and quickly operated to. attach and detach a shade withoutthe use of set screws, and which will securely hold the shade against detachment in use.

With these and other objects in view, I have devised the novel shade holder which I will now describe, referring to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and using reference characters to indicate the several parts I Figure 1 is a plan view of my novel shade holder;

My novel shade holder comprisesa shade ring 10 having an angle flange 11 provided with a plurality of inwardly extending shade-supporting lugs 12, and a central threaded attaching collar connected with the ring, as by arms 14, and adapted to enage a lamp socket. 15 denotes a shade fiaving the usual attaching flange 16 which is adapted to pass within the angle flange and engage lugs 12, two of which are ordinarily used, as shown in Fig. 3. As a third engaging support for the shade, I provide a spring actuated catch 17 having a beveled nose 18 adapted to pass over and then engage the flange of the shade, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. A notch 19 is provided in the ring and angle flange to receive the catch which is provided with inwardly extending ears 20. These ears are pivoted to cars 21 which extend upward from the ring at a portion of the ring contiguous to where it joins one of the arms. vided with an upwardly extending finger piece 22 for convenience in operation and is normally retained in the engaging position by means of a spring 23 coiled about a pin 24 which passes through the ears. The spring is provided with outwardly extending ends 25, one of which bears upon the top of the arm contiguous to which the catch is pivoted, the other end bearing against the inner face of the finger piece of the catch. I preferably, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, in order to give additional strength to the shade-supporti ng lugs, turn the inner ends of said lugs over inward, forming rolls 26 upon which the attaching flange of the shade rests. The operation will be readily understood from the drawing. To attach a shade, the operator simply engages the attaching flange of the shade with lugs 12 on the ring and then lifts the disengaged side 'of the shade upward against the nose of the catch which moves outward against the power of the pring and then springs to place under tne attaching :iange of th had to lock the shade in place, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. To detach a shade, the operator presses the finger piece inward sufiiciently to disengage the nose of the catch fronhthe attaching flange and then removes the shade. The wall forming the base of notch 19 in the ring serves as a stop to limit the inward movement of the catch when it moves to the engaging position, as at 27 in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, I claim A shade holder comprisin a ring having a downwardly extending ang e flange, shade supporting lu gs extending inward from sai flange, said ring and flange being provided with a notch, a bevel nosed catch pivoted in said notch and extending downward from the ring in position to engage a shade and hold it positively, and having a finger piece extending upward from the ring in position to be conveniently engaged, and a spring acting to yie'..dingly retain the catch in the engaging position, the base of the notch serving as a stop to limit the inward movement of the catch.
