Specification of Letters Patent.
`lEatented Apr.. il?, 11917..
Application filed July 23, 19M. Serial No. 352,75*?. v
To all wwm t may concern: Y
Be it known that l, 1WILLIAM L. WHEE- Lnss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Parsons, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Show-Case, of which the following is a specification. p
rlhis invention relates to show cases, and has for one of its objects the provision of a show case having a plurality of cabinets installed therein adapted to be lled with various articles of merchandise, whereby to expedite the sales of the articles by the clerks to the customers. l
Another object of thisinvention resides in the provision of a show case having a plurality of cabinets arranged therein, provided with means for exhibiting the contents of the respective cabinets to a customer.
A further object of thisinvention resides in the provision of a show case provided Y with a plurality of cabinets for containing various articles of merchandise, eachcabinet belng provided with means for dlspensing the contents thereof to obviate the necessity of the raising of lids, covers, etc. for gaining access to the contents thereof.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a show case having a plurality of cabinets therein, and provided with means for readily relilling the respective cabinets when necessary.
Other objects and advantages of the in* vention will become more apparent from the following specification, the subject-matter of the claims, and the illustrations in the drawings, in which,
Figure l is a front view of the invention.V
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the invention. F ig. 3 is a top View of the invention. Fig. 4 is an end view ofthe invention,
showlng one of the cabinets in dotted lines arranged therein and its shown in full lines.
Fig. 5is a rear View of one of the cabinets g used in the show case.
Fig. 6 is a side view of the cabinet g.
Fig. 7 is a top view of cabinet Fig. 8 is a side view of one of t e cabinets f of the invention.
Similar reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings F denotes the floor, shown in section, upon which the show case is adapted to rest. The lower portion of tliepshow case comprises the counter-like dispensing means structure provided with the counter P, and having itsfront side and its ends closed with walls provided with the panels j.
' lhe upper portion of the show case comprises a superstructure inclosed by a fronty 'of the superstructure above this compartment, are the clear panes of glass d, whereby the contents of this compartment may be viewed from the outside. Within this compartment are mounted sliding drawers having their rear ends formed to provide doors e adapted to swing on the hinges r, the doors e being provided with knobs or handles for withdrawing the same for gaining access to the contents thereof.
At each side of the center compartment are two smaller` compartments, in which are' slidably mounted the drawers z', which are designed to hold spice and the like, though certain of these drawers may be employed for holding change and the like. lin the front wall of the superstructure and in front of each of the respective drawers e' is arranged the small panes of clear glass b, whereby a customer may observe the contents of the drawers e' at the front of the show case.
At the right hand end of the show case is provided a larger compartment, in which are positioned a plurality of cabinets or containers f, eight of these cabinets being shown. These cabinets are designed for holding flour, and the like and are formed with the straightouter wall, the sloping in.
- the top. The formation of the outer and inner walls, and the upper edge of the side walls, provlde means for permitting the contents thereof to be viewed from the front of the show casefthrough the panes 'of clear glass a arranged in the upper porti-on of the front walls of the superstructure, one 'pane titl of glass abeing positioned directly in front of each of the cabinets or the containers f. The lower portion u of the outer wall of the cabi* nets f terminates at a point slightly remote from their bottoms, and is bent inwardly at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. This provides for the insertion of the scoop p for removing the contents of the cabinets j', and for preventing waste of material, the outer edge of the bottoms are bentv upwardly about one inch to provide a lip or ledge for preventing waste of the material in the cabinets. rlhe cabinets f extend from the under side of the top ofthe superstructure to the top of the counter l and are closely arranged side by side. v
At the left hand end of the show case is provided another enlarged compartment in which a plurality of cabinets or containers g are positioned, four of these containers being shown, and extending for one-half the length of the compartment, the remaining one-half of this compartment having cabinets 0r containers k arranged therein. The cabinets g and L are similar in structure excepting in the detail construction or' their discharging devices, with the straight outer walls, the sloping rear walls, open top ends,
-and the curved upper edges of their respective side walls, this part of their construction being somewhat similar to the cabinets j', whereby the contents thereof may be viewed from the front of the show case through the clear panes of glass a, one pane of each being arranged in the upper portion of the front wall of the superstructure directly in front of each of the cabinets g and h, in the same manner as hereinbefore described relative to the cabinets f.
The cabinets g and h are positioned side by side within the second large compartment, and extend to the under surface of the top of the superstructure, but upon the respective bottoms of the containers g and la, are formed lugs provided with arcuate recesses in their free ends which seat upon the horizontal rod n which extends along the,
entire length of the compartment, and elevated above the upper surface of the .counter P, the manner of so elevating the bottom of the cabinets g and h provides for the positioning of a scoop, bag or other receptacle beneath the cabinets g and h for receivinv arportion of the contents therefrom.
*or drawing'the desired quantity of the contents of the' cabinets g, the bottom of these cabinets are provided with a suitable opening therein, which Opening is adapted to be closed by the plate or cut ofi' O, which slidably engages the upper surfaces of the bottoms of the cabinet g. The plate or cut off O is mounted upon the upper end of a stem or rivet which projects downwardly through the opening and is secured at its lower end upon the operating lever m at a point approximately centrally thereof, the inner end of the lever m being pivoted to the under side of the bottom or the cabinet g by the rivet or other suitable pivotal connection t. The lever m, as-shown in Fig. 7, is in the position which it assumes for closing the opening, but it may be moved in either direction for withdrawing the desired quantity or' the contents from the cabinet g, as indicated by the arrows.
The cabinets L are provided at their lower outer portions with the spouts Z which are provided with suitable gates or cut oils for opening and closing the spouts respectively. lVhile I have here shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, minor alterations and variations mayv be made therein from time to time without departing from the spirit of this invention or the scope of the claim. Y Having described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is z- In a show case, the combination with a counter, of a superstructure mounted thereon having the rear side thereof open, a rod disposed longitudinally of said superstructure in spaced relation to the counter, a plurality of removable canisters mounted in the structure between said rod and the superstructure top, supporting lugs depending from the bottom of each canister and each formed with a notch adapted to receive said rod and support the canisters above'the said counter, a valve controlled outlet opening in the bottom of each canister, and sight glasses mounted in the front wall of the superstructure whereby the contents of each canister may be viewed from the front of the show case.
W. L. WHEELESS.
