VENDING AND DISPLAY CABINET.

Application filed September 22, 1926. Serial No. 136,974.

This invention relates to a vending and display cabinet.

The general object of my inventlon is to provide an improved cablnet whereby edible commodities may be displayed, and wherein a display device has a receptacle assoclated therewith for holding packages of the goods displayed.

A specific object of the invent1on 1s to provide a cabinet having a novel display holding compartment.

Another object of the invention is to provide a display cabinet with novel means for dispensing the goods therein.

A further object of the invention is to provide a dispensing cabinet having a novel closure thereon.

Other objects of the invention will be apparent with the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings where: I

Referring to the drawing by reference character, I have shown a display cabinet embodying the features of my invention at 10. This cabinet includes a top 11, a bottom 12 and ends 14. V

The front of the cabinet is shown as provided with a transparent panel 15 which may be made of glass or other suitable material and the rear of the cabinet is provided with a closure which comprises an upper door 16 which I term the filling door and which is hinged to the top 11 at 17. Hinged to this filling door by hinges 18 I show a second door 19 which I term a dispensing door. This latter door 19 may be provided with a suitable spring catch 20.

The cabinet is provided at the rear of the transparent panel 15 with partition strips 21, which are shown in Fig. 8. These partition strips have felt pads 22, thereon which engage the glass panel 15.

Extending entirely across the cabinet and abutting the rear of the partition 22, I show a false back 23. The construction described provides a plurality of compartments 24, which are separated from each other, which may be provided with suitable labels to indicate the contents of the individual compartments.

The containers in which the products to be vended are enclosed are shown at 26. These containers are preferably made of card-board and include a body 27 as shown at Fig. 5 and a cover 28 which may loosely fit on the body. The cover 28 is shown as provided with a slot 29, cut therein, through which the packages 30 of vendable commodities such as nuts and other edibles may be inserted.

In using my invention the compartments 24 are filled with different kinds of nuts, for example, after which the top 11 is secured in place. After this is done the two doors 16 and 19 are moved to the position shown in Fig. 4 and the containers 26 are then inserted. The containers 26 are of a width equal to the length of each compartment 24:, and the goods placed in each container 26 will correspond to the goods placed in the compartment 24 which is immediately in front. of the respective containers.

After the cabinet is filled the closures 16 and 19 are moved to closed position. When a person wishes to purchase one of the packages in the cabinet, he will indicate his choice and the merchant will open the door 19 after which he will insert his fingers through the slot. 29 and extract the lowermost bag 31 containin the desired prod not. The superimposed bags will fall by gravity to dispensing position.

In Fig. 6 I have shown a slight modification of my invention wherein the top 11, bottom 12 and ends 14 and closure doors 16,

and 19 are similar to those previously described. The transparent panel 15 is also as previously described.

In the rear of this transparent panel I provide a plurality of removable supplementary receptacles each having a transparent front panel 30", top 31, bottom 32, ack 33, handles 34, and ends 35. The ends extend a slight distance in advance to each transparent panel 30 and are provided with felt pads 36, which engage the panel 15. In this modification the top 11, is provided with spaced spring fasteners 37 which engages in recesses in the top of the receptacles 30 to hold the latter in position.

I show the handles 34, as arranged one at each side of each of the receptacles 30 so that any one receptacle may be removed without disturbing the others. The dispensing containers 26 used in connection with the modified form of my invention may be the same as that previously described.

In Fig. 7 I show a further modification of my invention wherein the top, bottom and back of the cabinet are the same as that previously described. The front is provided with a transversely extending member 40 which is spaced above the bottom 12 to provide a front dispensing aperture 41. This aperture is normally adapted to be enclosed by an enclosure 42 which has fasteners 43 thereon adapted to engage companion fasteners 44 on the beveled front end of the bottom 12.

Above the member 40, I arrange a transparent panel 15 corresponding to the panel 15 described. I also provide the removable display receptacles 30 which are provided with handles 34.

The containers 26 used with the modification shown in Fig. 7 may be the same as that previously described, and the operation of the device is similar to the previously described operation with the exception that when an operator wishes to use the front dispensing feature he may remove the closure 42 by pulling a handle so that the package may be removed through the opening 41.

In order that the nuts displayed in the cabinet may retain their fresh appearance, I prefer to treat them with a gas produced from a solution of equal-parts of carbon tetrachloride and ethyl acetate. This is done by providing container 51 which has a hermetic closure 52 thereon. The closure 52 is provided with a sponge cup 53, in which a sponge 54 saturated with the above mentioned solution may be placed. The nuts 55 having previously been placed in the container 51, the clamps 56 are adjusted to hermetically seal the container and the nuts are then subjected to a period of one hour or more to the action of the gas generated. This treatment preserves the nuts so that they do not deteriorate when in the display compartments.

From the fore oing description it will be apparent that I iave provided a novel fill ing and display cabinet which can be economically manufactured and which is highly efiicient in use.

I claim:

1. In a device of the class described, a cabinet comprising a top, a bottom, and a pair of ends uniting said top and bottom a transparent. panel in the front of said ca inet, means in said cabinet to provide a plurality of commodity displaying compartments arranged adjacent the front of said cabinet, a bottom for said display compartments extending across the front of said cabinet in spaced relation with respect to the bottom of said cabinet to provide a dispensing aperture in the front of said cabinet below said transparent panel.

2. In a device of the class described a cabinet comprising a top, a bottom, an a pair of ends uniting said top and bottom, a transparent panel in the front of said cabinet, a plurality of removable commodity display receptacles arranged adjacent the front of said cabinet, said receptacles having top, bottom and end members and having the said panel as the front thereof, a support for said removable display receptacles extending across the front of said cabinet in spaced relation with respect to the bottom of said cabinet to provide a dispensing aperture in the front of said cabinet, a back on said cabinet, said back being mounted to move on said cabinet.
