C. GLEICHE. MOTOR PLOW. APPLICATION FILED 05c. 29. 1914.

MOTGR-PLOW.
Application filed December 29, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL GLEIGHE, a citizen of the German Empire, and resident of Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Flows,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in motor plows, and more particularly in plows, in which the plow bodies or shares 10 are secured to a plow beam which is disposed obliquely of the longitudinal axis of the plow, which construction is advantageous for the reason that a single plow beam is used for Supporting several shares and that the said beam can be secured and braced in a simple way relatively to the frame of the plow so that the plow is simple in construction and its weight is comparatively low. However, the construction is objectionable in this respect, that there is little space between the shares andthe oblique beam for permitting the passage of the soil which has been lifted by the shares and the moldboards. Thus the said space readily becomes obstructed by the soil, particularly where the soil is heavy and loamy or covered with vegetation.
The object of the improvements is to provide a plow of this class in which this ob- 80 jeotion is removed and in which the plow shares are secured to the beam by means of an upright arm which is secured to the beam through the intermediary of a block or filling piece which embraces the beam at its inner or outer side with upper and lower flanges or lugs and is secured thereto by clamping members. Thereby I am enabled to dispose the plow shares in any desired positions on the beam, and the beam is not weakened by holes made therein for receiving screw bolts or the like for holding the shares in positions, but the stress on the beam is reduced at the points where the shares are connected to it, which is important because in the operation of the apparatus these parts of the beam are subject to high stress.
For the purpose of explaining the invention an example embodying the same has been shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of a part of the frame of a plow with a share secured thereto shown partly in section; and Fi Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 272,433.
2 is a partial vertical section substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
As shown the frame of the plow is provided with an oblique beam 3 to which plow share carriers 2 are connected one of which only is shown in the drawing. The share is shown at 1. The plow share carrier 2 is secured to the outer face 7 of a block 4: by means of screws 5 and 6, and the block is formed with upper and lower flanges ll embracing the beam 3 and with ears 12. Through the said ears and plates 13 clamping screws 8 and 9 are passed which hold the block 4 in position. The screw bolt 6 is passed through a sleeve 10.
By securing the shares to the beam in the manner described, they can be secured there- 7 O to at any point of its length, since upon loosening the screws 8, 9 the block 4: can be slid freely lengthwise upon the beam 3. Any strain tending to twist or turn the blocks 4L relatively to the beam 3, will be 5 borne by the flanges 11 and the parts of the beam engaged by them, and will not fall upon the clamping devices (screws 8, 9) which secure said block in position on the beam. The clamping devices are thus re lieved of any lateral or bending strain, and there is no danger of the blocks turning on the beam when the heavy strain due to the reaction of the plow share against the soil arises. This useful result is obtained with greater certainty when, as shown, the outer vertical surface 7 of the block 4, against which the carrier 2 rests, is longitudinal, that is to say, parallel to the direction in which the plow is adapted to travel.
I claim herein as my invention:
1. In a plow, a plow-frame having an oblique beam, blocks shiftable on said beam lengthwise and each having its outer vertical face in a plane parallel to the direction in which the plow is adapted to travel, plows secured to said blocks at the outer surfaces of the blocks, clamping devices for securing said blocks to the beam at different points of its length, and means on said blocks to relieve said clamping devices of the stress exerted by the plows.
2. In a plow, a plow-frame having an oblique beam, blocks shiftable on said beam lengthwise and each formed with upper and lower flanges embracing the beam, and each having its outer vertical face in a plane parallel to the direction in which the plow is adapted to travel, clamping devices for securing said blocks to the beam at different points of its length, and plows secured to said outer vertical faces of the said blocks.
3. In a plow, a plow-frame having a beam, a block slidable lengthwise of the beam, but held against turning thereon, said block having a face in a plane parallel to the direction in which the plow is adapted to travel, and a plow-share connected With said block rigidly at said face.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of tWo subscrib- 15 Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. 0.
