A. E. AlNsLl-E. MEDICINE CARD. APPLICATIQN FILED FEB. 15| 19H3- 9,96., Patented Mar. 27, 1917.-
ATTORNEYS rib,
MEDICINE-GARD.
Application filed. February 15, 1916.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, ALBERT E. AINsLm, a citizen of the United States, and a resi'- dent of Brashear, in the county of JAdair and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Medicine-Cards, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention is an improvement in medi cine cards, and the invention has for its object to provide a card of the character specified, having means for permitting the same to be hung up on the wall of a sick room, wherein the card is provided with a scale representing the divisions of time, and a series of marking means or .indicators for cooperating with the scale to indicate certain predetermined hours or other divisions of time7 the said indicators being distinguished from each other by difference in color or the like to represent different medicines to be given, and wherein the card and the indicators have cooperating means for permitting the indicators to be supported at predetermined points of the scale.
ln the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of the card in use, and
Fig. 2 is a front view of the card.
The present embodiment of the invention comprises a card which may be made ot' any suitable material, as for instance, paste board, paper, Celluloid or sheet material of any character, the said card comprising a rectangular portion 1 having a substantially triangular extension 2 at its top, the eXtension being integral with the body or rec tangular portion 1, and having at its apeX an opening 3 for engaging a nail 4, or the like, to support the card in a position where it may be easily consulted.
rllhe card is provided with a longitudinally extending slot or passage 5, near the top of the rectangular portion 1 and parallel with the bottom edge of the said portion, and a scale is arranged on the front .tace of the card just below this passage or slot. 'This scale 6 as shown, is formed by vertical lines spaced apart at equal distances from each other and of varying lengths to distinguish different divisions of time.
ln the present instance, the scale has twelve (12) primary sub-divisions representing the twelve hours of a half day, and each et these primary subdivisions is di Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 27, 1917.
Serial No. 78,414.
vided into two secondary sub-divisions representing the half hours, and the lines on the scales designating the half hours are about half the length of the lines designating the hours.
Each of the secondary subdivisions is divided into two tertiary sub-divisions representing the quarter hours, and at each of the lines designating the primary subdivisions a numeral is arranged, the said numeral being interposed in the length oi' the line as shown. The lower side edge of the passage or slot 5 is formed intol teeth or is notched as indicated at 8, at each of the lines forming the scale and the indicators to be described are arranged to cooperate with the notches or teeth to indicate the hours when medicine is to be administered.
The card 1-2 is provided near its lowerA cord being tied in the opening as shown. A
The cords are of dilferent colors, the cord 10 in the present instance being green, the cord 11, blue and the cord 12, red, and each of the cords is provided at its free end with a weight 13 in the form of a ball or the like, for holding the cord taut.
rlhe cords are of such length that any cord will extend from the opening 9 to the opposite ends of the slot or passage 5, and will pass through the said slot or passage from rear to front and will depend below the lower edge of the card at the front. Since each ot' the lines forming the scale .has a notch or recess at its upper end it will be obvious that when the cords are engaged with the notches or recesses as indicated in Fig. 2, the cord in front of the card will hang directly above the line at the notch or recess.
The cords extend from the opening 9 in rear of that portion of the card below the slot or passage 5 through the said slot or passage and below the lower edge of the card. The cords may be engaged with any notch or recess merely by lifting up the cord and moving it to the proper notch. Each cord is designed to represent a particular medicine to be given at predetermined intervals, and when the dose of medicine represented by any particular cord orindicator has beengiven the cord will be moved to the notchrepresenting the sub-divisions ottime several packages being differently colored and of the same color as the several indicators. Forinstance, the'ribbon on the package 14: might be green, that of the package 15 blue and that of thepackage 16 red. It for instance .theV medicine in the pack.- age 14 is to belgiven every four hours, that in the package 15 every haltI hour and that in the package 16 every hour the cord or indicator'lQ lwill be arranged on'the hour mark.
' It the nurse for instance should come-on duty at one oclock the indicator 12 would beplaced after the one oclock dose on the line designated by the numeral 2,*and each time that the medicine is administered the indicator will be moved to the succeeding hour.
In the same manner the indicators'lO and 11 will be used, the indicator 10 being moved four primary sub-divisions at each administration of medicine represented by the indicator. ,The indicator 11 would be moved one secondary sub-division for each ldose administered. While it is Obviousthatany number of cords or indicators might be used in connection with the card, as a rulethree will be sufficient.
The nurse or other person in charge can determine at a glance the time for admistering medicine and also determine at a glance whether or not any particular medicine orany particular dose of medicine has 4o been omitted.
I claim:-
A device of the character specified, comprising a card having means lfor permitting the same t0 be suspended and having a lon- 415 gitudinally extending slot or passage, said slot or passage being horizontal when the card is suspended and the card having a scale below the slot or passage and the lower wall of the said slot or passage being 50 notched or recessed at each indication of the sca-le, said card having an opening at its center and near its lower edge and a series of cords of diHerent colors tied at one end in the opening and provided at the other end with a weight and of a length to extend upwardly from the opening behind the card through the slot or passage and with the weight depending below the card at the front thereof. r
