tion such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to books and more particularly to books having envelop leaves or sheets.

The main object of the invention is to provide a book of this character of a size convenient to be carried in the pocket or handbag of the owner and having the leaves thereof folded to form a combined writing sheet and envelop designed to contain messages or other matter to be reserved and read at set times, the flaps having spaces to receive directions relative to the opening of the envelop.

Another object of the invention is to provide a book of this character, the leaves of which are constructed to form pairs of envelops connected at the ends of the body portions thereof, the flaps on one envelop being independent of those on the other.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.

In the embodiment illustrated the book constituting this invention which may be used as an album or for anyother purpose consists of a pair of connected covers 1 and 2 composed of a single rectangular sheet of Specification of Letters Patent.

any suitable material such as heavy paper, cardboard, leatherette, or the like. This rectangular sheet is folded transversely mid way its ends as shown at 3 to form a hingelike connection between the covers, and the free ends of these covers may be provided with suitable means for connecting them, tapes 4 and 5 being here shown which are adapted tobe tied together for holding the covers in position, or the covers need not be fastened.

Bound between these covers are a plurality of envelop leaves 6 formed in connected pairs. Each pair of these connected leaves in constructed from a single substantially rectangular sheet of paper, linen, or the like as best shown in Fig. 5. This sheet is of a length slightly less than the length of the combined covers 1 and 2 and of a width greater than the width of said covers to provide for its being folded to form the envelop leaves 6 which are when formed, of a size substantially corresponding to the size of the individual covers.

The sheet from which each pair of connected' envelops is formed is folded midway its length as indicated at 7 and this folded portion 7 is secured to the covers at their connected point by any suitable means such as stitching, staples, or the like. This sheet beyond the secured portion thereof is cut out to form pairs of separated top and bottom flaps carried by the respective leaves 6 which leaves are arranged at opposite sides of the folding point 7 of the sheet, said folding point connecting the ends of the body portions of the two envelops. The top flaps 8 of the two connected envelop leaves 6 have lines of fold 9 formed at their bases or points of connection with the body portions of the leaves, the folding line of the flap 8 of one of the leaves being arranged in longitudinal alinement with that of the other leaf with which it is connected and extending flush withthe upper end of the folding line 7 of the sheet. The cut out portion between the inner or adjacent ends of the two flaps 8 of the connected pairs of envelops is here shown V-shaped, and the end edges of said flaps are inclined inwardly toward each other as shown at 10, and 11. The upper flaps which fold over may be any shape just so that they give the general effect of folding over to conceal part of the lower portion.

The lower or bottom flaps 12 also have lines of fold formed at their bases or points of connection with the body portion of their respective envelops, the folding lines of the flap of one envelop being arranged in longitudinal alinement with the folding line of the flap of the other envelop with which it is connected and with the lower end of the line of fold 7 of the sheet from which the two envelops are formed. The cut out portion between the inner or adjacent ends of these flaps 12 is preferably in the form of a rectangular strip so that these flaps 12 form extensions of the-connected body portions of the leaves 6, being substantially of the same length and width as said body portions, so that when the sheet is folded to form the envelops, these flaps 12 will lap over the inner face of the sheet proper with their free edges terminating adjacent the folding line of the upper flaps 8 whereby an extended space is formed for containing written or printed matter.

The top or upper flaps 8 may be provided with any suitable sealing means, the inner faces being gummed or separate seals provided as shown at 13, according to the wishes of the user.

Any desired number of pairs of envelop sheets or leaves constructed as above described may be bound between the'covers 1 and 2 according to the uses for which the book is intended.

While this book may be employed for any purpose, it is essentially designed for use sealed, directions for opening the same may be written on the outer face of the flap 8 thereof.

This book may have any words or designs printed on the outer faces of the covers thereof to designate its contents.

A book constructed as above described may be conveniently carried in the pocket or handbag of the owner and referred to at any desired time.

I claim as my invention:

1. A book comprising a pair of covers, a plurality of envelops bound between said covers and arranged in pairs, the envelops of each pair being disposed end to end in longitudinal alinement having body portions the adjacent ends of which are united to each other and to the covers to form a hinged connection between the envelops and the covers.

2. A book comprising a pair of covers composed of a single rectangular sheet folded transversely its ends, and a pair of envelops disposed between said covers, said envelops comprising two leaves and being composed of a substantially rectangular sheet folded midway its length, the fold of said sheet being secured to said covers at their fold, a top and a bottom flap folded over each leaf, each top flap having its end edges inclined toward each other, the fold of the top flaps on each sheet being in alinement, the bottom flaps having their folds longitudinally alined, and means for sealing the respective top and bottom flaps together.
