Be itknown that I, GRACE MAE STEVENS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middletown Springs, in the county of Rutland and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double Envelops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in a double envelop.

The object of this invention is to provide an envelop, which is so constructed as to provide two separate pockets or receptacles in the holder or envelop.

A further object of thisr invention is to provide an envelop especially adapted for collections whereby separate matters may be held within the envelop and independently sealed.

A still further object of this invention is to provide an envelop with a pair of independent pockets or compartments and a sealing flap adapted to be inserted into the upper open end of one compartment and sealed therein, this flap closing the openings of both compartments.

A still further object of this invention is to provide an envelop of this character, which will be simple, durable and comparatively inexpensive in construction, and one that can be manufactured and sold at a low cost. Y

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described `and set forth in the claim hereto appended.

A pair of side flaps 11 and 11 respectively are formed integrally with the opposite side edges of the main body 6 and the bottom flap 7 and are divided by the dotted lines 8', which facilitates the creasing of the blank thereon, completing the envelop body.

The side flap 11 has a larger area than the iiap 11 and the flap 11 has arranged on its upper side adjacent its vertical edge a suitable adhesive 12. Each of the side flaps 11 and 11 respectively are provided on their upper sides adjacent their lower edges with suitable adhesive 13. The side flaps 11 and 11 are divided from the lower portion of bottom flap 7 by vertical slit 14, thus defining the sealing members 16 on the side flaps 11 and 11 and bottom flap 7 as shown in Figs. l1 and 2 of the drawings. The sealing members 16 are defined by the line 17, which extends thereacross and facilitates folding of the'sealing tongues or flaps into the position shown in Fig. 2.

Thev side flaps are creased on the lines 18 and are adapted to have overlapping en-` gagement with one another, flap 11 being positioned beneath flap 11, and the adhesive 12 is sealed to the inner face of the side flap 11, thus providing a single compartment. When the side iiaps 11 and 11 are folded on the line 8 and 8', this single compartment is divided into two compartments, designated A and B in Fig. 6 of the drawings.

The sealing tongue 9 Vis bent on the line 19 andl is adapted to be inserted into the upper open end of the compartment A and vsealed to the sealing tongues 16 and the adhesive 10 of' thesealing tongue 9 isV sealed to the inner face of element 7 of compartment A to eilieetively Vand permanently close the compartments A and B respectively.

by moistening the adhesive 12. The seal-- ing of the side flap 11 to the side flap 11 forms the compartment as shown. The blank is then bent on the dotted line 8 and 8 forming the compartments A and B ref sp'eetively. The sealing tongue is then inserted into the upper open end of the compartment A as shown in Fig. 7, the adhesive 10 and 13 is then moistened and pres- `mails or otherwise.

v'What is Claimed is:

A doublecompartment envelop formed from a blank having a rectangular body portion, a tongue extending from one side edge of the body intermediate its length to provide a closure flap, the body portion being provided with slits extending transversely thereof from the opposite edge and in alinement With the ends of the clo-V sure flap to provide intermediate and end tongues, the intermediate and end tongues being bent back upon themselves and the end tongues being gummed, said body being folded at the slits with the end portions eX- tending in overlapping relation and one of the end portions having its end edge portion gummed and adhering to the edge por, tion of the second end portion, said blank when Vfolded forming .a receptacle having open ends and said receptacle being folded transversely intermediate its length andthe closure iiap extending `from one of the open ends of the Ii'.'eceptacle being tucked into the second open end to close the open end and adhering to the gummed end tongues` and having its opposite face gummed for adhering to theintermediate tongues to hold the receptacle in a folded position.
