Tro in the county of Rensselaer and State of ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoking-Doors for Furnaces, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention has particular reference to a stoking door for garbage incinerating furnaces, and the primary object is to provide means for protecting the door proper and its hinge fromcontact with the refuse, and to insure discharge into the incinerator upo n closing thedoor of matter that may become lodged on either movable or fixed portions of door structure when the door is open.
The invention is embodied in a chute forming apron which is movable with the door and when the latter is open directs inwardly the garbage, etc. The improved attachment also fully protects the door and its hinge, all liquid or semi-liquid matter being carried thereby inwardly over the hinge Ian joint so that there can be no leakage and no obstructing of the .hinge. When closing the door, the inward movement of the attachment operates to clear the door ledge of matter lodged thereon, and its own steep inclination when closed results in dislodging any matter that may stick thereon when open.

The door 8 is adapted to close flatly against frame-face 4, being mounted to rotate about a horizontal axis. In the present embodiment this axis is located at the lower side or edge of-the door and is defined by the horizontal trunnions 9 which are mounted in the upwardly open hook-like bearing lugs 10 at opposite sides of frame 3.
An inwardly extending apron is movably mounted on the inner side of the door and consists of the fiat bottom portion 11 having at either side the upstanding wall-forming parts 12. The apron is hinged at its upper end at 13 to the upper portion of the inner side of the door. When the door is open the free portion of apron bottom 11 bears flatly on the inner face of the door, and extends over the hinge joint and onto frame ledge 7. Fluid or semi-fluid matter is thus directed inwardly and prevented from leaking through the hinge joint and from obstructing or clogging the hinge. In fact, all portions of the door are protected, none of the surfaces thereof being exposed to the garbage, refuse or other matter with which the incinerator is charged.
The apron moves freely through the door frame as the door opens and closes, and the bage or other matter with which the in cinerator is charged. Upon moving the door from the open position of Fig. 2 to the closed position of Fig. 3, the hinged apron slides inwardly over ledges 7 and 6 and overhangs the inner edge of the latter at a steep incline, thereby dislodging and directing inwardly any matter that may have become lodged thereon. The door is thus self-clearing each time it is closed.
Walls 12 are notched downwardly at 16 to facilitate removal of the apron-carrying door, to accomplish this, it being only necessary to partially close the door from the position shown in Fig. 2; whereupon sufficient clearance is had for the upward movement of walls 12 to enable trunnions 9 to I clear the open-top bearings 10, thus freeing the door and its apron from the frame.
While the invention is designed primarily as a stoking door for a garbage incinerator,
