To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, JOHN F. HEMENWAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressure-Releasing Devices for Clothes-Wringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pressure releasing device for clothes wringers, the object being to provide simple means for releasing the pressure on the pressure rolls in case of accident by providing the movably mounted top bar with an operating member which when depressed forces the releasing bars outwardly so as to move the pivoted latches out of the path of the top bar in order to allow the same to move vertically.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

In carrying out my inventioml employ'a frame formed of slotted side bars 1 connected togetherby cross bars 2 and provided with a movably mounted 'top bar 3 which isprovided with wear plates 4 engaged by pivoted latches 5 for holding the top bar in predetermined position within the wringer frame. Mounted within the slotted side bars of the wringer, frame are a pair of superposed pressure rolls 6 and 7 above which is arranged pressure means comprising pressure springs 9 and a pressure bar 10 which is engaged by pressure screws 11' carried by the movably mounted top bar 3 for adjusting the pressure on the pressure rolls.

The pivoted latches 5 arecarried by plates 12 secured to the upper end portions of the side bars 1 of the wringer frame, said plates being provided with openings 13 through which the reduced ends 14 of the releasing bars 15 extend and which are slidably mounted on the under side of the top bar 3 and are provided with enlarged abutting ends having semi-conical-shaped recesses 16 adapted to receive the conical-shaped ends 17 of the shank 18 of a push button 19 which is slidably mounted Within a bearing sleeve 20 secured centrally within the top bar as clearly shown in Fig. 1, the lower end of the shank being provided with a head 21 for preventing the' push button from becoming detached from the top bar and is surrounded by a coil spring 22 for normally holding the same in raised position.

In the construction of releasing bar as herein shown, the same is slotted to receive screws 23 for slidably mounting the same on the under side of the top bar 3 and is provided with slots 24 through which the pressure screws 11. pass and are free to move therein so that the releasing bars are free to move outwardly when they are forced apart by the push button being forced downwardly so as to cause the conical-shaped end to move downwardly within the conical-shaped sockets formed on the abutting ends thereof which forces the abutting ends apart the properdistance to cause the reduced ends 14 to move the pivoted latches 5 from ofl ofthe .ends of the top bar so as to top bar.

In the'operation of the releasing device as herein shown and described, assuming that the top bar is in the position in the wringer frame as shown} in Fig. 1 with'the latches release the in position to hold said top bar in predetermined position by forcing the push button downward, the releasing bars will move outwardly into engagement with the pivoted latches so as to force said latches out of the I path of travel of the top bar, and as the top bar moves vertically, the pressure is released mounted on the side bars for holding said top bar in predetermined position, releasing bars slidably mounted on the under side of said top bar, and a movably mounted member slidably mounted in said top bar extending between said releasing bars for movlng said releasing bars in opposite direction for having pressure rolls mounted in said top bar extending into said sockets for forcing said releasing bars outwardly to actuate the pivoted members to release the top bar.

A clothes wrin er, comprising a frame and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a movably mounted top bar having means for adjusting said pressure means, plates carried by the side bars of said frame, movable latches carried by said plates for holding said top bar in predetermined position, releasing bars slidably mounted thereon, said releasing bars having abutting ends provided with registering sockets, and a movably mounted member mounted in said top bar having a conical end extending into the socket of said releasing bars for moving said releasing bars outwardly into engagement with said movable members for releasing said top bar.

A clothes wringer comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, means carried by the side bars of said frame for bold ing said pressure means in predetermined position, releasing bars arranged to cooperate with said retaining means for releasing said pressure means, and a slidably mounted member arranged between said releasing bars and having means for forcing said releasing bars outwardly for releasing said pressure means.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a movably mounted top bar having means for adjustmg said pressure means, apertured plates carried by the side bars, movable latches carried by said plates for holding said top bar in predetermined position within said frame, releasing bars slidably mounted on the under side of said top bar having abutting ends provided with registering sockets, said bars being provided with reduced ends extending through the apertures of said plates in. alinement with said movable members and a movably mounted member mounted in of the path of travel of said top bar.

A clothes wringer, comprlsing aframe having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a movably mounted top bar having means for adjusting said pressure means, apertured plates secured to the side bars, pivoted latches mounted on said plates extending over said top bar, releasing bars slidably mounted on the under side of said top bar having abut-- ting ends provided with registering notches, said bars being provided with reduced outer ends extending through the apertures of said plate in alinement with said pivoted latches, and a push button having a shank slidably mounted Within the, top bar and provided with a conical shaped portion extending into the registering notches for forcing said releasing bars in opposite directions for moving said pivoted latches out of the path of travel of said top bar.

A clothes wringer comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, pivoted latches carried by said frame for holding said pressure means in predetermined position therein, releasing bars slidably mounted on said frame, and'a push button mounted between said releasing bars having a conical portion for separating said bars for moving said bars intoengagement with said latches, for releasing said'pressure means.

8. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a movably mounted top bar having means for adjusting said pressure means, apertured plates carried by the, side bars of said frame, latches pivotally mounted on said plates cooperating with said top bar for holding said top bar in predetermined position within said-frame, slidably mounted releasing bars carried by said top bar having abutting ends provided with registering notches, said releasing bars extending through the apertures .of said plates in alinement with said pivoted latches, said top bar having a vertically disposed bearing, a push button pro vided with a shank slidably mounted in said bearing, said push button having a conical portion extending into the notches of said releasing bars for forcing said releasing bars outwardly to actuate said latches, and a spring surrounding the shank of said push button above said'top bar.
