REA P. WRIGHT, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOIB, T0 JOHN FRANCIS HEMENWAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ADJUSTABLE AUTOMATIC PRESSURE-ROLL RELEASE FOR CLOTHES-WRINGERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REA P. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Automatic Pressure-Roll Releases for Clothes-VVringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable automatic pressure roll release for clothes wringers, the object being to provide means carried by the pressure roll bearings for ac- .tuating the releasing mechanism as disclosed in my companion applications executed even date herewith.
Another object of the invention is to provide an. adjustable releasing mechanism in which the trip members of the releasing bars are engaged by extensions carried by the pressure roll bearings on the upward movement thereof in order to throw the movable latches out of the path of travel of the top bar.
Other and further objects and advan tages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of the clothes wringer partly in section showing the application of the pressure release thereto in which the same is actuated by an extension of the pressure roll bearings.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of another form of release and extension for actuating the same.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have shown a clothes wringer which is provided with the usual frame 1 having slotted side bars 2 in which are mounted superposed bearings 3 and 4 in which are arranged shafts 5 and 6 carrying pressure rolls 7 and 8, the bearings 4 carrying spring supports upon which pressure springs 9 are mounted engaged by hearing plates 10, carried by pressure bars 11 which are of the ordinary construction of clothes wringer now in use.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
The bearing plates 10 are engaged by pressure screws 12 carried by a movably mounted top bar 13 which is held in its adjusted position within the wringer frame by a pivoted latch'14 having a tail portion 15 carrying adjustable trip members 16 constructed substantially the same as shown in my companion case.
Extending from the bearing 4 under the trip members 16 is an extension 17 having a cam face 18 which is adapted to engage the trip members 16 on the upward movement thereof, and rock the pivoted latch from off of the top bar so as to draw the same out of the path of travel of the movably mounted top bar to release the pressure means, the
'pressure rolls being separated a sufficient distance by the passage of a foreign object between the same to raise the upper roll and its bearings a sufiicient distance to bring the cam portion 18 into engagement with the trip members 16. I
In the form shown in Fig. 2 the wringer frame is constructed substantially the same as shown in Fig. 1 and comprises a frame 19 provided with the usual pressure rolls and pressure roll bearings for the shafts carrying the rolls, and the pressure means is identical with that shown and described in Fig. 1, the same being adjusted by pressure screws 20 carried by a movably mounted top bar 21 which is held in predetermined position within the wringer frame 19 by pivoted latches 22 actuated by releasing bars 23 which are provided with adjustable trip members 24. The upper bearings 25 for the upper pressure roll of the wringer are provided with extensions 26 which extend under the trip members 24 and are adapted to engage said members when the bearing is raised by the passage of a 'foreign object between the pressure rolls so as to move the releasing bar 23 upwardly into such position that the pivoted latch 22 will be moved off of the movably mounted top bar 21 and the pressure means will be instantaneously released.
Patented'Mar. 20, 1917.
Application filed October 2, 1916. Serial No. 123,383. I
ating the same so as to release the top bar and allow the same to move vertically Within the frame.
