which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompany ing drawing.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers and more particularly to a pressure releas- 'b ing device for the same, the object being to provide a clothes wringer with a movably mounted top bar having releasing bars for normally holding the same in predetermined position within the wringer frame, so that the pressure screws carried thereby can be adjusted so as to exert the proper pressure on the pressure rolls, said retaining bars being capable of beingshifted manually so as to release the top bar in order to instantaneously release the pressure means.

Another object of the invention is to provide a releasing device which is composed of a very few parts so constructed that they can be readily placed in position upon any ordinary wringer now in use.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

In the drawing 1 indicates a wringer frame having slotted side bars 2 in which are mounted superposed pressure rolls 3 and 4 carried by shafts mounted in suitable bearings, the upper bearings being provided with spring supports on which are mounted pressure springs 5 engaged by hearing plates 6 carried by a pressure bar 7.- Slidably mounted within the upper end portions of the slotted side bars 2 is a top bar 8 provided with pressure screws 9 adapted Specification of Letters Patent.

to engage the bearing plates 6 for exerting the proper pressure on the pressure rolls through the medium of the springs and pressure bar.

Secured to the upper ends of the side bars 2 of the wringer frame are plates 10 which extend upwardly slightly beyond the ends thereof and are provided with substantially inverted T-shaped slots 11 into'which are adapted to extend substantially T-shaped ends 12 of releasing bars 13 which are slidably mounted in the under side of the top ar 8, said releasing bars being provided with slots 14 through which the pressure screws 9 pass and slots 15 through which screws 16 pass so as to slidably mount the releasing bars 13 on the under side of the top bar 8 so that it can move inwardly and outwardly in the inverted T-shaped slots 11 of the plates 10 carried by the frame of the wringer.

Secured to the inner ends of the releasing bars 13 is a resilient member 17 which is preferably formed of a spring, the ends being preferably spot-welded to the releasing bars, and it is, of course, understood that it can be connected by rivets or other fastening means. The resilient member 17 is preferably provided with a centrally disposed bowed portion 18 adapted to receive the shank 19 of a push button 20 slidably mounted in a bore 21 formed in the top bar 8 so that when the push button is forced downwardly, the resilient member will be caused to assume the arc of a circle so as to contract the ends thereof which will bring the releasing bars 13 toward each other so as to draw the reduced portions formed by the T-shaped slots into alinement with the reduced portions of the inverted T-shaped slots 10 in order to allow the top bar to move upwardly a predetermined distance within the wringer frame so as to release the pressure on the pressure rolls.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a pressure releasing device in which a pair of movably mounted releasing bars are carried by the top bar which are preferably formed of rigid material so as to hold the top bar in position within the wringer frame, the ends of the releasing bars being connected to:

gether by a flexible spring which causes the bars to move toward each other when the push button is forced downwardly and to move outwardly when released.

I claim:

1. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a movably mounted top bar mounted in said frame having means for adjusting said pressure means, keepers carried by the side bars of said frame, non-resilient releasing bars carried by the top bar cooperating with the keepers, a resilient member connecting the inner ends of said releasing bars, and a push button slidably mounted in said top bar cooperating with said resilient member for moving said releasing bars in respect to said keepers for releasing said top bar.

2. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar movably mounted in said frame having pressur-e screws for adjusting said pressure means, plates secured to the side bars of said frame having substantially inverted T- shaped slots, non-resilient releasing bars slidably mounted on the under side of said top bar having substantially T-shaped ends cooperating with said slots for holding and releasing said top bar, a resilient member connecting said releasing bars, and a push button slidably mounted in said top bar 00 operating with said resilient member for moving said releasing bars in position to release said top bar.
