UNITED STATES OFFICE.
BEA WRIGHT, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOB T JOHN FRANCIS HEMENWAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
AUTOMATIC PRESSURE-ROLL RELEASE FOR CLOTHES-WBINGEBS.
. citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Pressure-Roll Releases for Clothes-Wringers, of WhlCh the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in an automatic pressure roll release for clothes wringers, and the object of the invention is to provide means for automatically releasing the pressure on the pressure rolls instantaneously without allowing the top bar to become displaced from the wringer frame.
Another object of my invention is to provide a clothes wringer having movably mounted retaining members cooperating with the movably mounted top bar in such amanner that the top bar can be held in predetermined position so that the proper pressure can be exerted on the pressure rolls and allowed to move vertically in order to release said pressure means without becoming detached from the wringer frame.
Another and furtherobject of the invention is to provide novel means for operating the movably mounted members for holding the movably mounted top bar in position within the wrin er frame which are in the form of an angular'lever pivotally mounted on the wringer frame having portions arranged in the path of travel of one of the pressure roll shafts, and connected at the opposite ends to the movably mounted members so that when the pressure rolls are separated, the movable members will be shifted in order to release the pressure on the pressure rolls.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of a clothes wringer showing the application of my improved construction of pressure rollreleasing device thereto; and
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a wringer of the ordinary construction com- Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 20, 1917.
Application filed October 26, 1916. Serial No. 127,895.
posed of a frame 1 having slotted side bars in which are mounted superposed bearings carrying pressure roll shafts 2 and 3, the upper bearings having spring supports on which are mounted pressure springs 4 engaged by bearing plates 5 carried by a pressure bar 6. The bearing plates 5 of the pressure bar 6 are adapted to be engaged by pressure screws 7 mounted in threaded boxes 8 of the movably mounted top bar 9 which is 'slidably mounted within the slotted side bars of the wringer frame.
Secured across the slots of the side bars of the wringer frame at their upper ends are movably mounted retaining members 10 in the form of plates having guide slots 11 through which guide "screws or pins 12 are adapted to pass for holding said plates in position on the 'wringer frame in such a manner that the plates are free to move transversely. The plates are provided with notches 13 adapted to receive the projecting studs 14L carried by the ends of the movably mounted top bar 9 so as ,to allow the top bar to move vertically within the wringer frame when the notches 13 are brought into vertical alinement with the studs 14, the lower edge of saidplate being normally held in a plane above the studs 14 as shown in Fig. 2 so as to hold the movably mounted top bar in predetermined position within the wrmger frame in order to allow the pressure screws to be adjusted so that the desired pressure on the pressure rolls can be obtained.
In order to provide means for automatically shifting the retaining members '10 transversely of the wringer frame so as to bring the notches 13 thereof into vertical alinement with the studs 14 of the movably mounted top bar, I pivotally mount on the side bars of the wringer frame angular levers 15 which are slidably connected at 16 at their upper ends to the retaining members 10, and are provided with portions 17 at their lower ends arranged in the path of travel of the pressure roll shaft 3 so that when the pressure roll shaft is mor'ed by the separation of the pressure rolls. the portions is prevented from becoming detached from the wringer frame.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a clothes wringer with an automatic pressure roll release composed of a pair of retaining members arranged to hold a movably mounted top bar in predetermined position within the wringer frame, and to allow said top bar to move acertain distance to release the pressure means, said retaining members being shifted into position to release the top bar by levers actuated by the vertical movement of one of the pressure rolls.
