Be it known that I, REA P. l/VRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Automatic Pressure-Roll Releases for ClothesNVringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompany ing drawing.`

rihis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable automatic pressure' roll release for clothes wringers, the object being to provide an automatic release which can be readily attached to a clothes wringer ot the ordinary construction so that the pressure on the pressure rolls will be instantaneously released when the upper pressure roll moves a predetermined distance.

Another object of my invention is to provide an automatic release which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one in which the releasing bars are slidably mounted on the wringer frame so as to cooperate with pivoted latches for holding the pressure means inpredetermined position7 .said releasing bars carrying adjustable fit mounted members which are engaged by the shaft of the upper pressure roll when the same is moved vertically by a foreign object being drawn between the rolls.

Another and further object of the invention is to provide en automatic pressure release which can be adjusted on the pressure rolls when the upper pressure roll moves a certain distance upwardly, whereby the wringer to which the pressure release is attached can be used for wringing various thicknesses of clothes by adjusting the release. u

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

Extending intov the slot of the side bars transversely are screws 16 which extend into the apertured ears 17 of pivoted latches' 18 which are adapted to engage the end of the top bar 5 as clearly' shown in Fig. 1 so as to hold the top bar in position within the slotted side bars of the wringerframe. The latches 18 are provided with curved por tions forming cam faces 19 which are adapte ed to be engaged by the cam-shaped upper ends 2O of releasing bars 21 which are slidably mounted in guide members 22 secured to the side bars, said releasing bars`21 carrying pins 23 working in slots 21l'lformed in the guide members 22 for holding the releasing bars in predetermined position in respect to the pivoted latches 18. The operationof the automatic pressure roll release as herein shown and described is as follows: I

Assuming that the wringer is being driven by power or hand through-the medium 'of driving mechanism, not shown, carried by the lower shaft 7 ofI the pressure roll 8 when a foreign object is drawn between the pressure rolls the upper pressure roll 9 is moved vertically and the shaft 8 thereof is forced into engagement with the lower edge of the trip membersY 28 which causes the `trip members to move vertically in order to bring the cam-shaped upper ends 20 into engagement with the cam faces 19 of the pivoted latches 18 which forces said latches outwardly from 0E of the Vends of the movably mounted top bar 5 and allows the top bar 5 to move vertically which instantaneouslyreleases the pressure on the pressure rolls.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an automatic pressure roll releasey for clothes wringers which can bel'set so Ithat the same will be tripped by the' vertipal movement of the upper pressure roll,I wherebyl am able to set the releasingmechanismv into various posi- :tions in. order to enable. the clothes wringer to wring dierent articles without releasing the pressure roll means.

I claim:

l. A clothes wringer, comprising' a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls, retaining means for normally holding said 'pressure means in predetermined position, releasing members engaging said retaining means, adjustable tripl members carried by said releasing members, said -trip members bein arranged in the path of travel of one o said pressure roll shafts and adapted to be engaged thereby on the upward movement of said roll.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls, a top bar movably mountedv within said frame having pressure screws for adjusting said pressure means, movable members mounted upon said frame for holding said stop bar in predetermined position therein, slidably mounted releasing memberscoperating with said movable members, ltrip members adjustably mounted on the lower ends of said releasing members, said trip members being adapted to be engaged by the shatter one of said pressure rolls on the upward movement thereof for actuating said releasing members.

A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls-and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, pivoted members for holding said pressure means in predetermined position, releasing members for moving said pivoted members in position to release said pressure means, trip members adjustably carried by said releasing members, said trip members being arranged to be engaged by the shart of one of said pressure rolls on the upward move'- ment thereof. y

7. A clothes wringer, comprising a frame having' pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls imounted therein, guide m rnbers secured tothe sides of said frame, 'releasing bars slidably mounted in said guide members, trip members adjustably carried` by said releasing bars, said trip members being arranged in the path of travel of the upward movement of one of said pressure rolls, and movable members arranged in the path of travel of said releasing bars for holding said pressure means in predetermined position within said frame.
