WALL TABLE.
Application iiled October 11, 1924. Serial No. 743,128.
To all wlw/1n t may concern.'
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON GIARD, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at St. Michel de Rougemont, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall Tables; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention pertains to a novel wall table adapted to be collapsed and neatly 'disposed near a wall.
ln order to provide the properties mentioned above, the table comprises a box supported adjacent a wall and having a slot cut therethrough. lithin the box is journaled a roller carrying a pair of toothed wheels. The table top is adapted to pass through the slot, and comprises a number of articulated slats. The articulations are formed by means of pivot pins adapted for reception between the teeth of the wheels, whereby the movement of the top into or out of the box is facilitated. The shaft is prefer ably surrounded by a spring which is so positioned as to aid the movement of the table top out of the box.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following description and in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary transverse vertical section thereof on the line 2-2 of Figure 4;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical section;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Figure 2; and,
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5*5 of Figure 2. y
Reference to these views will now be made by means of like characters which are ernployed to designate corresponding parts throughout.
The device may be contained Within a narrow box 1 placed against a wall 2 as shown in Figures 1 and 3. A pair of bearings 3 are supported at the upper ends of the side walls of the box and serve to support a shaft 4 as clearly shown in Figure 2. The shaft carries at its ends a pair of toothed wheels 5.
The table top comprises a plurality of articulated slats 6, each havingl a pair of brackets 7 one near each end thereof. The depending portion 8 of each bracket has a pair of lateral ears 9. The ears of a given bracket both lie either behind or in front of the ears of the adjacent brackets as shown in Figures 4 and 5, and are pivotally connected by means of pins 10. These pins extend into the spaces 11 between the teeth of the wheels 5, and thus serve as the connection between the articulated top and the wheels. One end of the top is secured to the forward wall of the box, as shown by the numeral 12, and the top passes'through a slot 13 cut at the upper endrof the forward wall of the box. rEhe exterior end of the top carries a cross piece 14 to the ends of which are secured table legs 15.
The shaft 4 is surrounded by a spring 16 having one end secured to the shaft and the remaining end to the forward wall of the box as shown in Figure 3. The spring is so placed as to urge the table top out of the When the table top is to be concealed within the box, the forward strip 14 is grasped and pushed towards the box, the pins 10 turning the wheels 5 and shaft-4 and thus causing the spring 16 to wind. The table top obviously drops into the box as it passes over the wheels. Finally, the legs 15 engage the front wall of the box7 the remainder of the table top being concealed with the exception `of the first Slat and the strip 14. When the table is to be extended, the strip 14 is merely pulled outwardly, carrying with it the articulated slats 6, while the spring 16 aids in this operation.
`Whi1e e.. specific embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described., it is to be understood that various alterations in the details of construction muy be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention as indicated by the appended claim.
Having thus fully described the inventionl` what I claim as new and desire to protect by 10 Letters Patent is A Wall table con'iprising a box having a slot cut through one of the Waits thereof7 :i shaft jonrnale'd Within the boxS toothed Wheels mounted on seid shaft, a ginrzilitj/v of shits having brackets secured thereto, pivot pins joining said brackets and adapted tor reception between the teeth oit seid Wheels, seid shits forming an articulated table top adapted to pass through said slot.
rIn Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
