Description

DANIEL ARNDT:
Improvement in Deer Securers'.
Pat cntedDec.19,18'71.
UNITED STATES DANIEL ARNDT, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-SECURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,980, dated December 19, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL ARNDT, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Fastening; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a door-fastening, as will be herein-atter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of my door-fastener closed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of it opened.
A represents the shank of my door-fastenin g, provided near the other end on one side with a chisel-point, B, and at the other end with a wedge or triangular-shaped projection, G. This projection forms a part of the shank, and is on the inner side provided with a square notch, a, and a gradually-deepening groove, 1), which terminates in a slot through the end of said projection. In this is pivoted another wedge or triangle, 0, provided with a tapering rib, d, to fit in the groove 1), and with a ')rojection, e, to lit in the notch a. The lock is opened and the shank A placed against the jamb of the door with the point B inward. By now closing the door the point B will be driven or forced into the door jamb, and the jaw C may be closed, the base thereof coming against the door. The door is now securely fastened from the inside and cannot be forced open, the projection or tooth 6 taking off the greatest portion of the strain from the pin or rivet which pivots the two parts together.
Having th us fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described door-fastenin g, composed of the shank A, with chisel-point B, jaws (J G, with notch a, groove b,rib (1, and tooth c, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 9th day of September, 1871.
