Be it known that I, ISRAEL H. MURDICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Benton Harbor, in the county of Berrien, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Mop Holder and Nringerg and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved combined mop holder and wringer, and an object of the invention is to provide a device in which improved features of construction arc involved.

In practical fields the details of construction' may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

Referring more especiallyT to Figs. 4, 5 and 6 of the drawings,

1 designates a handle, to which a U- shaped spring frame is secured by means of the screw 3. This U-shaped spring frame 2 has journaled in its arms the pintles 1 of the combined wringer and clamping roller V5. A second U-shaped spring frame 6 is provided, and which substantially conforms and lits the U-shaped spring frame 2, and journaled in the extremities of the arms of the frame 6 are the pintles 7 (which and the pintles of the roller are provided with heads) of the combined wringer and clamping roller 8, between which and the roller 5 a conventional form of mop 9 is clamped. G are provided with elongated slots 10, through which the pintles of the roller 5 extend, so as to permit the two U-shaped spring frames to be adjusted relative to each other, as well as assisting in guiding said frames. It is to be noted that the arches of both of said frames are spaced apart from each other, the space tapering from 'the center, that is, from where the frame 2 is secured to th-e handle, toward the side of both frames. 'Extending about the opposite arms of both frames are metal loop straps 11, which, when moved down upon the arms toward said rollers, the arch portions of both frames maybe sepa-rated, thereby separating the rollers, so that the mop may be removed, or easily adjusted. However, by moving the straps toward the handle, the U- shaped frames, particularly their arched portions may be clamped as well as being drawn closer together, thereby clamping the rollers together, to securely hold the mop; The' opposite ends of the mop are provided with loops constructed of cord or the like, first one and then the other of which may be grasped, in order to pull the mop between the rollers in one direction and then the opposite direction, to wring the mop. In Fig. 7 the loop straps are dispensed with, andv instead the screw (which fastens the frame 2 to one end of the handle) is provided with an extension threaded shank 12, which passes through the arch of the U- shaped frame 6, and is provided with a thumb screw 14, for drawing the adjacent arched portions of the U-shaped spring frame toward cach other.

Referring more especially to Figs 1, 2 and 3, which illustrate the preferred form of the invention, it is to be noted that the U-shaped frame 2 is provided with a sleeve 16, which receives one end of the handle 1 and is secured thereto by the screws 17. The frame 2 is provided with an opening 18, through which a rod 19 extends and into a bore 20 of the handle l. This rod 19 is carried by the U-shaped frame 6.- The sides or arms 21 of the U-shaped frame 2 are provided with slots 22, while the sides or arms 23 of the frame 6 are provided with lugs 24, which extend through the slots 22, so as to guide the two frames relative to each other when moved. In Figs. l, 2 and 3, the roller 5 is carried by a shaft 5a, the ends of which are mounted in bearings of the ends of the arms 21 of the frame 2',

there being extensions 25 in which the ends 26 of the threaded rods 27 are swiveled, as shown at 28. The end portions of the rod 5"L are provided with shoulders 29, thereby preventing axial movement of the shaft or rod 5a. The threaded rods or screws 27 thread through the lugs :9A and are provided with thumb pieces 30. The rod or shaft 50' extends through the slots 3l of the arms 28 of the frame G. In Figs. l, 2 and 3 the roller S is carried by the shaftoi' rod S, the ends of which are mounted in bearings of the ends of the arms 23 of the frame G. The shafts 5a and 8"* are provided with pins Sel and li the rollers 5 and S are to be constructeiil oi` rubber, they are to be vulcanized to the shalts, the pins or projections 3i acting as means to prevent displacement of the rollers. However, if the rollers 5 and S are to constructed of any other suitable material, such as wood or liber, the pins 3l and 35 will be screwed into the shafts 5 and 8a. It will be noted by turning the screws oi rods 2'? in one direction or the other, the iframe G will more into and outwardly from the traine 2, thereby moving the rollers toward and from each other. By moving the rollers toward each other, a inop may be clamped, and when it is desired to ivi-ing the mop it may be pulled from between the rollers.

The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is l. A mop holder comprising a pair of U- shaped spring frames, one litting within the other so that the side arms of both frames may slide adjacent each other, the arms of Copiesk o this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner the inner frame being longer than the arms of the exterior frame, said inner arms having elongated slots, aroller having its pin- L clamped, the arched portions of both frames being spaced apart, metal straps extending about the adjacent arms oi both frames to be adjusted toward the center portion of the arches of both frames to draw the arches closer together to clamp the rollers together,

and a handle secured to thc central part olf' the arch of the exterior frame.

2. In a mop holder, the combination of a pair of U-shaped spring frames, one fitting within the other so that the sides of both frames may slide adjacentxeach other and provided with guiding means carried by the sides to guide one of the frames when moved and rollers adjacent to each other journaled in the ends ol said frames, of means carried by the sides of the frame to hold one frame in adjusted position relative to the other, whereby a mop may be clamped between the said rollers.
