end being mounted upon the pintle above a keeper 27,*said keeper being threaded upon the lower end of the pintle.
On account of the construction as described, the lower end of the plunger 26 is, in constant engagement with the middle part or member 19 on account of the action of a spring which is interposed between the plungers. lt will be noted that the plunger il may slide until its lower end engages the wei'lge ll), also that the boss or collar 23 is well adapted to support all transverse stresses. rl`he tubular plunger QG may freely slide upwardly within the plunger 2i, subject to the resistance of the spring 2g. Also, during operation the wedge l5 will have a uniform movement outwardly and inwardly of the casing, therollers, on account of their connection with the side bars moving uniformly therewith while bearing upon the smooth surfaces of members 9 and 19.
The resistance provided for the spring 28 may be adjusted by means of the threaded connection of the keeper Z7 with the pintle, and for most purposes this adjustment is such that the plunger 26, when a pressure is applied to the plunger 2l by member 22, will not. immediately move upwardly within the plunger 2i while the wedge l5 is ,mov-
king outwardly, but it an excessive or undue pressure is applied to said member- 22, the spring 28 may be compressed, the result" being that all shocks and practica dy allH vibration delivered to the plunger 212. Jfrom member 22, will be neutralized the spring 28. i
The arrangement of parts is such that the device may bc used. in instances where a limited movement only ot the actuating rod is required, as for moving an electrical contact member for making or breaking an electrical circuit (not shown), or in other instances to provide for an extended thrust or movement et' the actuating rod.
Any suitable means may be provided for interlocking the side bars of cach pair, such as the recess 29 formed in one side bar, best shown in Fig. 4, adapted to be engaged by a finger 30 of the other side bar of the saine pair. y
Having fully described our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by lietters Patent is,-- 4
l. A mechanical movement, comprising, in combination, an upper plate, a lower plate,
va wedge between the plates and provided with an actuating rod projecting outwardly of the plates, a plurality of rollers disposed between and engaging the wedee and lower plate, a plurality ot rollers disposed 'between and engaging the wedge and upper plate, and an element arranged to pre-ss one of the plates toward the other plate for'mov ing the wedge and actuating rod longitudinelly of the plates.
Leiefivi 2. A mechanical movement comprising,l in combination, two adjacently disposed plates, a wedge therebetween and provided with Va projecting part, rollers interposed between the plates and wedge, and an element arranged to press one of the plates toward the other plate to move the rollers in the same direction longitudinally of the plates and to move the wedge outwardly of said plates.
23. A mechanical movement comprising a pair ot' adjacent plates, a wedge between the plates, rollers between the wedge and said plates, and a pressure element for moving the wedge longitudinally of the plates, one ot said plates moving toward the other plate while the wedge is moving in one direction and moving away from the other while thp wedge is moving in a reverse direction. 0
el. il mechanical movement comprising, in combination, two adj acently disposed plates, a wedge therebetween, rollersv interposed between the plates and wedge, a pressure element for moving one ot' the plates transversely toward the other plate to move the rollers in one direction and to move the wedge outwardly of said plates, and a resilient member interposed between the pressure element and one of said plates.
V5. A mechanical movement'eomprising, in combination, a support, a plate on the support, a' second plate adjacent to the first named plate, a wedge between the plates, connected side bars arranged in pairs at the opposed side edges of the plates and wedge, rollers journaled at their respective ends upon a side bar of each pair and disposed between the first named plate and the wedge, rollers journaled at their respective ends upon aside bar of each pair and disposed between the second plate and the wedge, and an. clement arranged to press one of the plates transversely toward the other plate for moving the wedge longitudinally of Said plates.
(3. ln a Vmechanical movement, in combination, a casing provided with a bottom and having recesses in its sides, aI plate in the casing, a wedge in the casing between the bottom and said plate, side bars arranged in connected pairs, each pair being disposed in a recess, rollers engaging the bottom of tbc casing and wedge and having their ends journaled in one of the side bars of each pair, rollers engaging the plate and wedge and having their ends journaled in one of the, side bars ot each pair, and an element adapted to press the plate toward the bottom of thecasing for moving the wedge longitudinally.
7. In a mechanical movement, in combination, a lower plate, an upper plate, a wedge between the plates; resilient means tending to prevent a movement of the wedge, journaled rollers engaging the wedge and lower Lemmi plate, a. plurality of journaled rollers engaging the wedge and upper plate, a pressure element engaging the upper plate to move Said upper' plate transversely toward the lower plate for moving the wedge, and a resilient member between the pressure element and upper plate.
8. n a mechanical movement, the con1- bination of a stationary plate, a secondary plate disposed above the stationary plate, a Wedge between said' plates, connected bars disposed at opposed sides of the plates and wedge, rollers having their respective ends journaled in said bars and disposed between the inclined faces of the Wedge and said plates, and an element pressing the secondary plate toward the stationary plate for moving the connected bars, rollers and Wedge in one direction.
In testimony whereof, wehave allixed our 2G signatures in presence of two witnesses.
