Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, KARL ABEL, merchant, and FRIEDRICH PERVESLER, mechanician, both of the city of Vienna, Empire of Austria-Hungary, having invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Switch Device, do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same;
This invention has for its object a switch device with four crosswise connected fixed contact pieces, each adjacent two of which may be connected with movable con-tactpieces each attached to a terminal of the con- (luctor, so that by simultaneously closing any two adjacent contacts (which are not acted on by the same movable contact piece) the direction of the current may be altered.
The invention is shown as an example in the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 and 2 show the same device in two sectional views taken at right angles to one another: Figs. 3 and 4 show two views of a detail on a somewhat enlarged scale and with slight modification: and Fig. 5 shows an arrangement of the switch device in a. panel or case in combination with a device for igniting gas from a distance.
The four fixed contact pieces 1, 2, 3, 4 are conductively connected crosswise with one another. The movable contact pieces are formed of two suitably shaped strip springs 8 and 9, connected with the terminals 5 and 6 respectively of the conductor 7. Each of these springs bridges over two adjacent contact pieces 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 respectively. The two members of each pair of adjacent ends of the contact springs 8 and 9 may be operated simultaneously by a press button 10. The source of current may be a dry battery 1 1 which is arranged with the switch in a casing 12. If, for instance, the terminal 13 be connected with the positive electrode, and the terminal 14 with the negative electrode and the contacts 1, 8 and 2, 9, simultaneously closed by means of the press button, the current flows in the direction indicated by the arrow (Fig. 5). If, on the other hand, the contacts 3, 8 and 4, 9, are simultaneously closed, the direction of current is reversed. The conducting wire may if desired be connected with the gas pipe, so that the latter acts as a conductor.

An electric switch or pole-changer comprising an insulating base, opposite pairs of spring contacts mounted thereon, spring con tact strips secured to the base intermediate of said opposite pairs of contacts, the opposite ends of each spring strip extending over contacts of opposite pairs and push buttons mounted over the strips, each button extending over two spring strips, whereby two spring strips are brought into contact with a pair of said contacts by depressing a single button.

An electric switch or pole-changer com prising an insulating base, opposite pairs of spring contacts mounted thereon, cross-connections between diagonally opposite contacts of said pairs, spring contact strips secured to the base intermediate of said opposite pairs of contacts, the opposite ends of each spring strip extending over contacts of opposite pairs, and push buttons mounted over the strips, each button extending over two spring strips, whereby two spring strips are brought into contact with a pair of said contacts by depressing a single button.
