DEVICE FOR EXTRACTING FOREIGN SUBSTANCES FROM PIPES.

i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC G. HANLE'IN, citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Extracting Foreign Substances from Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in that class of devices which are to be used as a force cup, and it is provided with a hollow handle for the reception of a cleaning tool the cleaning tool when used to be withdrawn from the hollow handle, the handle of the cleaning tool being provided with a stop to limit its movement in the handle of the force cup. With these ends in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more in detail described and the asserted novelty specifically claimed.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my device in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional View showing my device detachably located in a pipe or tube, and provided at its lower end with a suction or vacuum cup.

Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several figures.
Referring to the drawings. A designates a pipe which maybe of any preferred construction, but in this example I have shown a straight pipe. B designates a coiled flexible spring shaft loosely inserted in the pipe or tube A. This spring shaft is provided upon its lower end with a screw G by means of which when the flexible spring shaft is inserted within the pipe or tube A takes Specification of Letters Patent.

hold of whatever may obstruct the pipe or tube and it is readily and conveniently withdrawn therefrom.
D designates a rubber vacuum cup which is detachably coupled to the lower end of the pipe or tube A and is provided with a teat valve E located within and near the contracted upper portion of said cup D and which is more clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. F designates a handle which is fitted snugly and detachably into the upper end of the pipe or tube, and to the lower end of this handle is secured the upper end of the spring shaft B.
This device may be used as a force pump, if desired, and if any stoppage cannot be removed by forcing such stoppage then the operator can use the flexible spring shaft and bring the obstruction back and free the pipes or fixtures pertaining to plumbing work. The teat valve within the rubber cup releases the air and prevents the rubber cup from breaking. The spring shaft can be used to clear stoppages in vacuum cleaner systems, and, as above mentioned, the clevice can be used on straight or curved pipes, trapped fixtures,.and any child can'operate the device, thus dispensing with the assistance of a plumber, the owner of the device being his own plumber.
lVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
As an article of manufacture a combined force cup and cleaning tool, comprising a flexible force cup provided with a hollow handle, a cleaning tool adapted to be inserted in said hollow handle and to be removed therefrom, said cleaning tool provided with a handle and a stop to limit its movement in the hollow handle of the force cup handle.
