IMPROVEMENT IN INDIA-RUBBER SUPPORTERS FOR THE ANUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,868, dated December 12, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM GREENTREE, of the city and county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Anus-Supporters, of which the followingis a specification:
My invention relates to supporters for the anus; and the said invention consists of a slotted rubber band with an anus-pad torming a part thereof, for the cure and relief of prolapsus ani or protruding bowel and external hemorrhoids or piles, adapted for males and females or children.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a section of the supporter and its pad, shown as perforated for the passage of foul air. Fig. 2 represents a similar section, the pad being shown as hollow. Fig. 3 represents a similar section, the pad being shown as solid. Fig. et represents the under side of the pad-strap for males, with its front and back attachments for suspenders. Fig. 5 represents a top view of a pad and strap adapted for females. Figs. 6 and 7 represent the waistbands and suspenders.
The supporter consists of a soft rubber band, a, slotted at each end atb to receive a slip-buckled band, c, for attachment to waist and shoulderbands. Near its rear end is formed upon the surface of the strap a pad, A, forming an integral part of the strap a. It is made of a form corresponding to that of the anus, being a semi-ellipse in the example shown, and may be perforated, as in Fig. 1, solid, or hollow, as maybe desired. It must project into the anus sufficiently to close and support it. Ihen made hollow it is better adapted to the parts, if much intlamed, and relieves the irritation in such cases better than when solid; but I prefer a solid pad, as it holds up the parts in their natural position lunch better. For males the rubber' strap should be com parati vely narrow, so as to pass along the perineum, as shown in Fig. 4; but for females it must be broader, so as not to enter the vagina, as shown in Fig. 5.
In this Way l obtain a perfect anus-supporter with a soft connecting-band along the line of the perineum, so that the wearer may sit, Walk, run, and exercise without inconvenience.
The rubber supporter can be removed from the wearing-straps and washed at any time and applied again at once, as it does not absorb any matter, and thus can always be kept in a clean condition.
Having described my invention, I claim- The slotted rubber band a, with the anus-pad A forming an integral part thereof, as described.
HIRAM GREENTREE.
