Description

further provided with a shallow recess 24 in which normally rests :1 lug 25 which is carried on the shackle. T heretore it will be understood that when the stud 17 is in its lowermost position in the body 10 the lug 25 will enter the recess 1H while the free end of the shackle 22 is locked within an aperture .36. However when the disks are properly manipulated to bring the slots 18 into vertical alinement slight upward movement is permitted of the stud 17 which will cause the lug 2? to he removed from the recess 2 tand the free end of the shackle disengaged from the aperture 20. 'hen the parts are in this position. the shackle 22 may be swung in either direction until the lug 25 engages the headed member 27 which of course prevents further movement.
lnorder to return the stud IT to its lowermost position with the body i a resilient element. preferably in the form of a coil spring '35 is arranged therealmut. having one end li.\'ed thereto while its other end bears against the block 2 3.
From the foregoing it is believed that the advantages amt novel features of my invention will be readily understood and therefore further detailed description has been deemed unnecessary.
In reducing my invention to practice I find that the form referred to herein as the most practical and preferred embodiment is the most eilicient. but realizing that certain conditions will necessarily vary in concurrence with the adoption of my device, I
BEST AVAILABLE COP desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in the details of construction and in the proportion of parts may be resorted to when required without sacrificing anyof the advantages of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
In a permutation lock. a body structure having a cutout. a plurality of permutation disks arranged in said cut-out. a portion of each of said disks projecting cxteriorly of said body structure, said disks provided with vertically alined openings. a stud arranged in said openings. lugs on said stud normally preventing removal thereotfl said disks provided with slots capable of permitting passage of said lugs. a block, having a central opening-arranged in said first mentioned cut-out. a shackle. one. end of said shackle being connected with'said stud, the adjacent portion of said shackle projecting through said block a lugiion said shackle, said block provided witha recess for the. reception of said last mentioned lug. and said body structure provided with a recess for the reception of the free end of said shackle.
In testimony whereof l atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
