Turning the key in the key-Way a causes the operating lever a, to be locked With relation to the engaged position of the tongue a, With the said device 0, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. It will thus be observed that any attempt to shift the said cam-deivce from this position with the finger (1 in contact With the part c of said device will be prevented and likewise any movement of the tongue of, suil'iciently to release it from its engagement with the said device to open the door. The surface 0 of the cam-device 0,
is adapted when the latch is unlocked to contact with the finger a", of the operating lever 60*, which depresses the part 0 of the said device a, to cause it to assume momentarily such a position under the tension of the spring cl, as to enable release of the tongue (0, from its engaged relation with the part 0 of the sand dev ce 0, to thus freely open the door a. it for any reason the spring (1, underwhich the device 0, is
held in operative position, as above described should become broken or disarranged and the latched door he still locked, the arrangement of the device 0 is such, that it will still prevent opening the door, because any attempt at shifting the device will cause at the same. time, the finger a, of the operating lever a to engage the part 0 of the said device, to prevent a movement to such an'extent as to shift the said device 0, or to release the tongue 0, from contact ,frigerator or other door.
with the part 0", of said device so that thereby the foregoing arrangement provides a safety lock-latch fastener Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described, a lock-casing having a tongue, an operating lever having a finger, a casing and a spring controlled device mounted in said casing and having a cam-surface for said tongue to engage, to hold the door latched and an opposite contact-surface adapted to permit of the turning of said device in one position of movement of said finger and to prevent movement of said device in the other position of movement of said finger.
:2. Ina device of the character described, a lock-casing having a tongue, an operating lever having a finger, a casing having an oblong opening in the top and a spring controlled device mounted in said casing and having a cam-surface for said tongue to engage to hold the door latched and an opposite divided contact surface adapted to permit of the turning of said device in one position of movement of said finger and to prevent movement of said device in the other position of movement of said finger.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of twosubscribing Witnesses.
