Specificationof Letterslatent.
Patented Feb. '27, 1917.
Application filed July 26, 1916. Serial No. 111,374.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, VIo'ron GUINZBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented a certain new and useful I1nprovement in Nursing-Vests, of which the following is a I specification.
This invention relates to a device adapted I to be worn by mothers when nursing chiling operation but to act as a breast support.
These and other objects are successfully accomplished by my improved device, a more particular description of which follows hereinafter. 7
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my im proved nursing vest;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a portion of the same with one of the flaps or breast shields being open to disclose the breast' opening; 7
Fig. 3 is a rear View of the vest;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line H of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of'the arrows; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Throughout the various views of the drawing, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment 'of my 111-" vention illustrated in the. accompanying drawings, 1 indicates the body portion of the device which is preferably composed of a thin and light waterproof material. This body portion is suitably reinforced. at its edges by the binding strip 2 and is also reinforced by the transverse strips 3.
ing in narrow slits 5 at their upper ends so that the openings can readily accommodate themselves to the breasts of the wearer. The openings 4 are suitably reinforced by the binding strips 6,
Secured to the lower edge of the body portion 1 are the breast flaps or shields 7. These flaps are secured to the body portion by the stitches 8 which secure the binding strip 2 in place and also by stitches 9 on the side edges of each flap whereby each flap, adjacent its lower end, is partly secured to the body portion and a pocket 10 is formed between the lower end of the flap and the partIll of the body portion of the garment, which part 11 is situated directly below the breast opening 4. The pockets 10 can be filled with absorbent cotton so that any moisture resulting from the nursing operation will fall downward into the pockets 10 and be absorbed by the cotton or other abdanger of contacting with and soiling the garments of the wearer.
To close the flaps 7 over the openings 4 I provide said flaps with button holes 12 adjacent their upper ends, which coact with the buttons 13, properly secured on the body portion, to hold said flaps over the breast openings in closed position. Of
course, if desired, any other form offastening means may be substituted in place of the buttons and buttonholes.
To secure the vest about the wearer, I provide an elastic strip 14 which is secured to one end of the vest, and the outer or free end of this elastic strip is provided with buttons 15 coacting with button holes 16 on the other end of the vestwhereby the device will fit snugly about the wearer without discomfort or inconvenience.
From the foregoing, it will be obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment herein shown and described but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claim.
What I claim is;-
A nursing vest provided with breast openings and with flaps, forming closures for, and overlying said breast-openings upon the outer side thereof, and means for effecting connection therebetween and said vest said flaps being continuously attached along their bottom edges to the vest below the breast openings, and along their lateral edges to points approximately on a level with the bottom of the breast openings Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the whereby are formed by the vest and the flaps conjointly, pockets for holding an absorbent or filler. i
Signed at the city county and State of New York, this Qa'th clay of July, 1916.
