' an improved ticket-holder which shall bel NICHOLAS R. HOMYER, J 0F GRANITE CITY, ILLINOIS.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Application filed April 1,1916.
To all 'whom t may concern. e
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS R. HOMYER, Jr., citizen of the United States, and-resident of Granite City, Madison county, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specication containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My.- inventionY relates to an improved ticket-holder for the use of conductors and others, and it is especially adapted for handling childrens tickets upon street cars, although it may of course be used by the conductors of many other forms of vehicles, such as public automobiles.
The object of my invention is toprovide fitted with means'for conveniently attaching it to the conductors belt or pocket, andV`` also be supplied with improved mechanism for holding a reasonable supply of tickets in readiness to be quickly detached and delivered consecutively, without interfering with the conductors regular duties.
My invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and specifically designated.
in the appended claims.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my street-car ticket holder.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section and Fig. 3 is a horizontal the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
The numeral 1 indicatesa rectangular box, preferably made of sheet-metal and nickel-plated, and having on one side a suitable lid or door 2, which is secured to said box by means of hinges 3 and a clasp 4.
The top of said box is provided with a delivery-slot or opening 5, into which the conductor inserts his finger or Vthumb in removing the tickets one at a time. The wall of said box 2, at the delivery-end of of the same,
section, taken on v said slot 5, is cut away just the thickness of one ticket, so that but a single ticket can be slid out at a time; the said upper end of said wall at that point forming a stop, or barrier, for the delivery-ends of all of the tickets except the top one of the lot.
The bottom of said box 1 is closed, and two spring-holders 6 cylindrical in form, are fixed at their lower ends on said bottom.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 88,415.
Telescopically mounted. within4 the said fixed spring-holders 6 are the sliding cylindrical spring-guides 7, theY upperfends of which are fixed to the undersurface of a ticket-follower 8.
.Mounted within the said spring-holders 6 and extending from the bottom'of the box upwardly into the said cylindrical springguides 7, are coil-springs 9 and 10.
The upper ends of the said springs 9 and l() engage the under surface 2of the said spring guide -7 and normally urge said follower upwardly.
- lThe numeral 1l indicates a small handle,
which is fixed upon and depends from the underside of the said follower 8 in the space between said parallelspring-guides 7, for a purpose hereinafter mentioned.
A suitable hook 12 has its lower end loosely secured to an eye 13 fixed upon the upper surface of the box-bottom, so that said hook may engage the said handle and hold the said follower 8 in a retracted position while the tickets are being placed within the ticket-holder.
The numeral 13n indicates a supply of tickets, which are made of card-board in the usual manner and placed in the space between the slotted top of said box land the'said follower 8 so they will be urged `upwardly toward said slot 5 by the said 9 and 10 pressing against the said rarement ret. sa, fait.'
convenient to the conductors hand, during p use of the device.
The ticket-holder, as above described,
may be made of any desired size, to hold a large or small number of tickets.v
The operation of my invention should be obvious, and I will not describe its function in detail, except to say that in filling the ticket-holder the operator grasps the said handle 11 and retracts the said follower 8 against the power of the said springs 9 and 10,y and moves said follower downwardly until said handle reaches the v plane of the upper end of said hook 12, when the latter is made to engage said handle and thereby hold the said follower retracted during the operation of placing a inconvenience on the part of the conductor.
The spring 1G is preferably made heavier than the spring 9, so as to exert more force near the delivery-end of said slot 5, where the Vgreater force is necessary in supporting the tickets against the pressure of the conductors finger while detaching a ticket.
l claim:
1. An improved ticket-holder for conductors use, comprising a box or closure, a lid for same, suitable fastenings for said lid, there being a ticket delivery-opening in said box having stop to permit the passage of but one ticket at a timetherefrom, two parallel spring-holders fixed at their lower ends on the bottom of said box, a ticket-follower, two parallel spring-guides lower, two parallel spring-guides on said follower, springs in said spring-guides, a handle on said follower in the space between said spring-guides, and a hook for engaging said handle, to retain said follower retracted while filling the holder with tickets.
In testimony whereof, l have signed my ame to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
