GAP.
Specification of letters Patent.
Patented not. so, 19 1s."
Application filed August 14, 1916. Serial No.'114,'766.
To all whom z'tmag concern.
Be it known that I, EARNEST WASHING- TON, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Faribault, in the county of-Rice and State of'Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain newand useful improvements in caps and more especially to caps having provision for holding glasses or chauffeurs goggles to avoid the necessity of carrying the glasses in a case.
I provide a cap or hat with simple means within the same for supporting the glasses or goggles so that when not in use they may be disposed within the crown of the cap or hat where they are out of the way, and readily brought into operative posit-ion when desired for use. The device is readily applicable to any hat or cap and can be manufactured and applied at minimum cost.
also provide within the hat or cap a plate or card. adapted to bear the number of the car and the owners name or any other desired data.
I also provide a band or veil for the hat or cap upon which may be printed or otherwise affixed any suitable wording or information, as may be desired.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is an elevation showing my improved cap with the goggles in position for use.
Fig. 2 is arrenlarged substantially central vertical section from front to rear, showing the goggles in operative position by full their inoperative position.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the different views.
eferring to the drawings,
1 designates a cap or hat of any suitable shape and construction provided with a vizor 2 or it may be any other form of cap designed for use by automobilists or drivers of motor vehicles.
- "proper position over the eyes,
Within the cap isja ring 30f any suitable material, preferably spring wire and preferably of that kind covered with cloth so as to prevent injury to the head of the wearer. This ring is secured within the cap, to the sweatband or any other portion of the cap near its'lower edge by any suitable means, such asshown for instance at 4, 4.
'Mountedto slide upon this ring are the smaller rings '5, 5 which loosely embrace the ring 3, as seen best in Fig. 2, and to these rings are connected the wires or other ligaments 6, the other ends of which are connected to the glasses or goggles 7, of any suitable or well-known kind, as shown at 8.
In practice, the glasses or goggles 7 are thrownup into the crown of the hat or cap, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, and are thus out of the way, as will be readily understood. "When it is desired to use the goggles,. all that it is necessary to do is to throw them down into operative position, as seen in Fig. 1, and as indicated in full lines in Fig. 2, when they are held in the ligaments 6 allowing the requisite movement.
The flexibility of the ligaments 6 permits of the sliding of the rings 5 on the ring 3 so as to bring the goggles into proper position and also permits of the requisite movement of the cap relative to the goggles when in use.
Upon the interior of the cap is a holder 9 into which may be slid a card or the like 10 bearing the name of the owner and the number of the car,,or any other desired data or information.
In some cases I may provide the hat with a band or veil 11, as seen in Fig. 1, having the streamer or streamers 12 which when the car is moving rapidly will be thrown out vertically, as seen in'dotted lines in Fig. 1, and upon this band or veil may be printed or otherwise afiixed any desired data or information.
Modifications in details may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of'the inventionor sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed as new is z 1. A cap, a ring secured within the same beneah the crown, members slidable upon said ring, and goggles carried by, said members.
2. A cap, beneath the a ring secured within the same crown, rings slidable upon said movable outside the hat for use, and into position within the (,l'()\\'ll ml the hat when not in use. 10
In testimony whereof I nllix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
