The same is then slid down into the box,-

with the slot 12parallel with the slot 3 but separated therefrom by the frontal lining 15, as shown in Fig. 2.

As is evident, the space between the paper front 11 and'the box front 2 forms in effect renders the slots incapable of permitting the escape of moisture.

The ends or flaps 1'7 serve. to retain the cigarettes in place more perfectly as the parts are being slid into the box.

The advantage in having the frontal lining 15 separate from the

parts

10 and 11 is that said lining may be made of heavier paper, or even card, while the remainder are of thin paper. Further, the frontal lining 15', andthe connected top 14.- can be more easily drawn out to give access to the contents through the slots, than can the integral lining. Further, the card lining 15 can bereturned to its original place, if desired 'to preserve the cigarettes for a further period.

It should be noted that the slot 12 in the paper front 11 does not reach to the bottom tween the adjacent edges of the frontal lining an'dth'ebottom 4 of the box, as would be the case were said slot to extend to the same point as does theslot When the lowermost cigarette is reached, the pressure of the finger easily tears the thin paper front thereat and, reaches the object behind.

If desired, the box may be made somewhat fancy and comparatively expensive, and the cigarettes .may be shipped in the paper lining suitablyj sealed by internal revenue stamps, and slid into the box as needed.

What I, claim'is:
