Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2% 191?.
Application filed April 24., 1916. Serial No. 93,312.
duce a sock supporter comprising a resilient clamp or clasp adapted to engage the leg of the wearer and having suction devices to assist in holding it securely in position.
A further object of the invention is to produce a resilient clamp which will be a'djustable as to size, said clamp being equipped withsuction devices and with sock engaging prongs.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
Inthe drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device, the covering of the same having been removed.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View, showing a portion of a human leg to which the device has been applied.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view.
Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 55 in Fig. 3.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved device comprises a resilient clamp made of two curved strips 15 of spring steel or other appropriate material, said strips being overlapped and provided with slots 16 for the reception of a rivet 17, whereby the strips are slidably connected together so as to form a substantially U- shaped clamp, the limbs of said clamp being somewhat convergent. One of the strips may be provided with terminal lugs or tongues 18 overlapping the other strip so as to cooperate with the rivet to prevent relatlve displacement of the two strips Each strip is provided at its free end with an enlargement or head 19 on which is mounted a suction cup 20 of rubber, said cups facing in an inward direction. Each strip 15 is provided adjacent to the head 19 with an upwardly extending prong 21. The strips 15 are covered by a tubular casing 22 of textile or suitable material which will be capable of extending and collapsing when the strips are relatively extended or collapsed; the strips have been shown as being provided adjacent to their respective heads 19 with apertures 23 to permit the tubular casing to be secured thereon by stitching.
In the operation of this device, the clamp may be mounted on the leg of the wearer next the skin, the suction cups 20 serving to assist in retaining the device in position, it being obvious that previous to placing the device in position the strips 15 will be relatively extended or collapsed to enable the device to fit snugly on the leg. It is obvious that when undergarments are worn the device may be mounted upon the outside of such garments which will then be engaged frictionally by the suction cups to assist in retaining the device in position. After adjusting the sock the upper edge thereof is engaged with the prongs 21 and will thereby be held in position.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A sock supporter comprising two overlapping resilient strips slidably connected together, said strips being provided at the ends thereof with suction cups and with sock engaging and retaining prongs.
2. A. sock supporter comprising two overlapping slidably connected curved resilient strips having terminal heads, suction cups mounted on said heads, and sock engaging prongs adjacent to the same.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HOPETCN A. DAVIS.
