ROBERT W. MILLER. OF WOODLAWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
OIL-GLOTHVENDING APPARATUS.
Application filed October 23, 1915.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, Ronnrcr Miriam, residing at Voodlawn, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, a citizen of the United States, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cloth-Vending Apparatus, of which improvement the following is a specification.
My invention relates to apparatus for vending oil cloth, and the object thereof is to provide a simple and practical apparatus for this purpose whereby such cloth may be easily and accurately measured and effectively cut into desired lengths.
In the accompanying sheets of drawings, which form part of my specification, and in which I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a plan view of the apparatus; Figs. 2 and 3 are, respectively, front and side elevations thereof; Fig. 4: a vertical sectional view taken on the line IV-IV, Fig. 2; Fig. 5 a detail sectional view to enlarged scale, taken on the line V-V, Fig. 2; and Fig. 6 a. sectional view taken on the line VI-VI, Fig. 5.
In the several figures like numerals are used to designate like parts.
In my improved apparatus I provide a frame which may be of any suitable construction, that shown herein consisting of oppositely disposed pairs of legs 1 and 1 sustaining, at their upper ends supporting beams 2 and 2*, and suitably braced by cross bars 3. -Upon the beams 2 and 2 there is rotatably mounted a stock reel 4, which may be arranged to hold any desired num-v ber of rolls of oil cloth. As shown herein, provision is made for six of such rolls, and to hold the reel from rotating while cloth is being drawn from one roll the reel is provided with a. plurality of eyes 16 adapted to be engaged by a hook 17 secured to Adjacent to the reel 4, and secured to the protruding ends of the beams 2 and 2, I provide a cutting board 5. To hold the cloth firmly upon such board while it is being cut, a hold-down bar 6 is hinged or otherwise secured for pivotal movement to one end of the cutting board 5. The other end of the bar 6 is provided with means for moving it and clamping it firmly against the face of the cutting board. For this purpose I preferably provide an arm .7 pivoted to the beam 2 and connected to the otherwise free end of the cutting bar 6 by Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 30, 1917..
Serial No. 57,568.
10. As will be readily understood, the construction and arrangement of the cutting board and hold-down bar is such that a desired length of oil cloth may, when the bar 6 is in the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, be drawn from a stock roll and between such board and bar. The arm 7 may then be turned downwardly to the full line position, thus clamping the cloth firmly to the board. Finally, the cloth may be cut by sliding the cutter carriage longi tudinally of the bar 6.
To receive and measure the cloth 1 provide a reel 11 pivot-ally mounted in suitable arms 12 and 12 secured to the frame. As shown particularly in Figs. 3 and st, the reel 11 is provided with spring clamps 13 to engage the end of the oil cloth. Furthermore, at one side of the reel and in line with the clamps 13, there is attached the end of a measuring tape ll, which extends over the cutting board 5 and is secured at its other end to a suitable take-up device 15 attached to the beam 2. Thus to measure a certain length of cloth it is only necessary to place the end of the cloth in the clamps 13 of the reel 11, and turn such reel until the measuring tape at the front edge of the bar 6 reads the required length, it being understood that the turning of the reel simultaneously and in equal lengths, withdraws the cloth from the stock reel 4 and the tape from the take-up device 15. When the cloth is cut, it may be removed from the reel 11, the tape 1% being simultaneously taken up by the take-up de vice 15.
I claimas my invention:
In an oil cloth vending apparatus, the combination of a frame, a stock reel and a receiving and measuring reel rotatably mounted thereon, a cutting board secured to the frame between said reels, a clamp borne by the receiving reel for engaging oil cloth, a measuring tape and take-up device therefor secured to said frame adjacent to one end of the receivingmeel, said tape extending over the cutting board and having its outer end secured to said receiving reel at a point in line with said clamp, a hold-down bar pivoted at one side of and adapted to hold the cloth firmly against In testimony whereof I have hereunto set said cuttiing i board, mean; secured to the my hand. other en 0 said bar or clam in it against said cutting board and upon a sieet ROBERT MILLER 5 of oil cloth to hold it firmly upon said board, Witnesses:
and a cutter slidably mounted upon said PAUL N. CRITOHLOWQ bar. FRANCIS J. TOMASSON.
