ATTACHMENT ron GAS-BURNERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 23, 1917.
Application filed June 13, 1916. Serial No. 103,493.
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, PASQUALE J. BORACOI, a citizen of Italy, residing at Long Island City, in the county of Queens, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Gas- Burners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attachments for gas burners and has special reference to an attachment of this character designed to enable a person to heat water, milk or the like and which may be readily applied to,
or detached from a gas burner of the ordinary type.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved, simplified and economical device of this character wherein the parts will be especially adapted for being manufactured from sheet metal to a great extent and will be few in number so as to minimize the extent of soldering or riveting required in assembling the device.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein certain of the parts operate both to hold the heating plate and to prevent accidental slipping of the vessel containing the liquid to be heated from the attachment.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be hereinafter apparent the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of referencev indicate like parts in the several views, and Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device; Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a vertical median section through the device.
In the embodiment of the invention herein illustrated, and which it is to be understood as being capable of manufacture in various sizes and proportions so that the device may be used for diiierent sizes of burners and flames, there has been disclosed a device of this character which is provided with a tubular member 10 adapted to fit over the burner. Extending from this tubular member are legs which are composed of the lower sections 11 and upper sections 12, the latter being provided with eyes 13 wherethrough the extremities of the lower sections 11 pass. In order to hold the two sections in adjusted positions, the adjustment being permitted by reason of the slipping of the lower section through the eyes 13 there is provided a. set screw 14 which extends through the upper section 12 and binds against the lower section 11 between said eyes 13. It is to be noted that both the lower and upper sections are made of material which, while stiii enough to supportthe weight of the vessel desired to be heated, are yet capable of being bent or sprung slightly so as to permit of the adjustment above noted. v
Secured to the upper ends of the legs 12 is a frusto-conical hood 14 which is of such Width as to receive all of the heat ascending from the flame of the burner. Around the upper part of this hood 14 is a flange 15 forming a collar and this flange is provided with a series of openings or perforations 16 spaced horizontally about the flange. The hood and flange are formed integrally of sheet metal of suiiicient thickness for the purpose and the flange has projecting therefrom outwardly and upwardly extending radial fingers 17 which have their extremities bent upwardly and inwardly as at 18. These fingers and extremities are formed by slitting the sheet metal downward from the upper end of the flange and bending the same as shown.
At 19 is a circular plate which is adapted to receive the vessel which is to be heated. This plate is positioned between the extremities 18 on the outer ends of the bodies of the fingers 17 so that the edge of the plate 19 rests in the angles formed between the bodies and extremities of said fingers and is held from dislodgment by said extremities. Thus the hood, flange, and fingers are'formed fromone piece of sheet metal, the plate 19 is formed from a second piece, and the remainder of the device is also simple and economical in construction. Furthermore, the extremities 18 of the fingers serve a double purpose inasmuch as they hold the plate 19 in position, and at the same time prevent sidewise slipping of a vessel resting on the plate from passing off laterally.
It is to be noted that the upward and outward arrangement of the fingers 17 forms triangular openings 20 so that the outer edges of the plate may be thoroughly heated.
There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the, form and construction of the invention without departing from the material principles thereof. It is not therefore desired to confine the invention to the exact form hereinshown and described but it is wished to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
What is claimed is:
1. An attachment for gas burners comprising a tubular I member adapted to fit over the burner, legsextending outward and upward from the member, a frusto-conical hood secured to the upper ends of the legs, a flange extending upward from the top of the hood and provided with a series of openings spaced horizontally about the flange, outwardly and upwardly extending fingers radiating from the top of the flange and having upwardly extending extremities bent slightly inward, and a plate held on the fingers in the angles thereof.
2. An attachment for gas burners com prising a tubular member adapted to fit over the burner, legs extending outward and upward from the member, a frusto-conical hood secured to the upper ends of the legs. a flange extending upward from the top of the hood and provided with a series of open ings spaced horizontally about the flange, the upper edge of the flange being split and bent to provide outwardly and upwardly extending fingers radiating from the top of the flange and having upwardly extending extremities bent slightly inward, and a plate held on the fingers in the angles thereof.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
