Description

A. HEIN.
COCK. APPLICATION FILED MAY 12, 1913.
Emma M23, 1917 mla u ADOLF HEIN', OF BERLIN, GERNEANY.
I COCK.
Original application filed April 11, 1912. Serial No. 690,211.
Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLF HEIN, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing at No. 12 Zimmerstrasse, Berlin, Kingdom of Prussia. German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cocks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present application is a division of my application, Serial No. 690211, filed April 11, 1912, for Letters Patent of the United States of America.
My invention relates to cocks, and more particularly to that class of cocks used for controlling the amount of heating medium admitted to a radiator, and has for its object to provide a cock, which when adjusted to allow a certain amount of heating medium to enter the radiator, is prevented from being further opened by an unauthorized person.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawing 54 is a cock, which consists essentially of a valve member 57 having a stem 51 working in the gland member 52 as usual and adapted to be adjusted in the casing 56 by turning the handle 55. A disk 58 has the usual stop 59 which prevents the lever 55 from being moved beyond the proper limit. Under this stop the usual indicator disk 60 is provided, which enables the movement of the lever 55 to be read ofi. The disks 58 and 60 are fastened by a nut 61 and have holes 62 and 63 respectively, through which a wire 65 having a seal 64: is passed. This arrangement which assures that the opening of the cook 54 cannot exceed the adjusted point is the only new feature of the cock. By this ar- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jam. as; rat a Divided and this application filed May 12, 1913. 767,229.
rangement the disks 58 and 60 can only be turned by destroying the seal 64 or cutting the wire 65. Instead of this arrangement any other rigid connection between the two disks may of course be adopted, which will prevent a relative movement of the disks.
In order to prevent the lever 55 from being taken ofl'which would also enable the cock to be turned beyond the adjusted point-the screw 66 holding said lever may be provided with a seal or be made unsuitable for being operated by a screw driver by its groove 67 being filled out with an easily melted alloy.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. An adjustable cock, comprising an indicator disk, a handle movable over said disk, thereby indicating the position of the valve of the cook, a second disk rotatable with respect to the first named disk and provided with a stop member arranged to move over the indicator disk and to be engaged by the handle, means for securing said second named disk in adjusted positions, and means for securingthe disk and stop together.
2. An adjustable cock comprising a valve casing having an inlet and an outlet, a valve disposed therein, a. handle secured to the valve stem and provided with a depending arm, an indicator disk carried by the valve casing and being provided with an opening to receive the valve stem, a second disk disposed above the indicator disk and being provided with a laterally extending stop member, said second disk being rotatable with respect to the indicator disk and being arranged to be engaged by the depending arm, and means comprising a lock nut for locking the stop member in its shifted position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of
