UNITED STAT I FATE T OFFICE.
ARNOLD SCI-IROETTER, OF NEW- YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY-CATCH FOR PINS.
Application filed October 7, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNOLD SoHRonT'rnR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Catches for Pins, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a safety catch for breast pins, and similar articles, which is of simple construction and effectively locks the pin against accidental or larcenous removal.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a side elevation of a bar pin provided with a catch embodying my invention; Fig. 2, an enlarged side view, partly in section, of the catch; Fig. 3, a right hand end view thereof, and Fig. 4, a plan.
The catch comprises essentially, a hookshaped keeper 1, mounted on a base 2, said base likewise carrying the post 3 of the pin 4. To the beak of hook 1, there is pivoted by means of a stop hinge having pintle 5, a curved latch 6 having a projection 7, which is accommodated within a corresponding notch 8 of the beak. To the shank of hook I, is pivoted at 9, a tongue 10, which is normally retracted by means of a plunger 11 engaged by a spring 12, and received within a chamber 13 of the shank. The upper end of tongue 10, is provided with a. groove or seat 14, formed between a toe 15 and a handle 16. The toe is rounded and is adapted to engage the projection 7 of latch 6, the toe being eccentric to said latch. The handle 16, projects upwardly through a notch 17 of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1917.
Serial No. 124,219.
I claim:
1. A safety catch for pins, comprising a keeper, a latch pivoted thereto, and a pivoted tongue having a toe adapted to engage the latch.
2. A safety catch for pins, comprising a keeper, a latch pivoted thereto, and a spring-controlled tongue pivoted to the keeper and having a toe which is eccentric to the latch.
3. A safety catch for pins comprising a keeper having a notch, a latch pivoted to the keeper and having a projection adapted to engage said notch, and a pivoted springcontrolled tongue having a toe adapted to engage the projection, said toe being eccentric to the latch.
4. A safety catch for pins, comprising a keeper having a notch, a notched latch pivoted to the keeper and having a projection adapted to engage the keeper-notch, a pivoted spring-controlled tongue having an eccentric toe adapted to engage the projection and a handle adapted to engage the latch-notch.
