STATES PATEN OFFICE EMIL MUCKLE, or WATEBBURY, CONNECTICUT, nssrenon 'ro WATEBBURY CLOCK ca,
0F 'WATERBU'RY, CONNECTICUT, A'CORBORATIION.
Be it known thatLE n MUOKLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hammer-Wires and Hubs Therefor for Clock-Movements; and I do hereby declare the following,=when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters .of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of and represent, in-
this application,
Figure 1 a view 1n elevation of a hanimerwire and hammer-hub constructed in accord- V ance with my invention. Fig. 2 a broken edge view of the hanuner-hub, showing the hammer-arm and hammer-tail of the hammer-Wire broken away. Fig. 3 a. detached View of the hammer-hub, and showing the angular locking-groove formed therein at one side of its center. Fig. 4: a broken view I of the hammer-wireshowingthe angular locking-bend formedftherein for insertion into the corresponding locking-groovein the hammer-hub. Fig. 5a detached edge'view of the hammer-hub showing its concentric staking-shoulder. "Fig. 6 a detached plan view of the combined washer and cam-finger. I
My invention relates to an improved hammer-wire and hammer-hub, for use in clockmovements, the, object being to provide sim-' ple, durable and reliable means for fastening the wire to the hub, whereby the ham- 7 'mer-arm and hammer-tail may be made in one piece and the danger of dislocation when made independent of each other and secured in place by solder, avoided.
With these ends in view my invention consists in a hammer wire and hammerhub having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in r the claims. In carrying out my invention as herein shown, the hammer-hub 2 is formed in, one
ofits faces with an angular locking-groove do of this potent may be owned for nve cents each, by. addreulng war-humane." I
THEREFOR FOB CLOCK-MOVEMENTS.
3 arrangedatone side of its central 0 ening 4 which receives the stud (not shown? upon which the huboscillates, the grooved face of a triangular locking bend 8 between them corresponding in size and shape to the said locking-groove 3 in the face of the hub,-the
' arm 6,'tail 7 andbend 8 together forming the hammer-wire. The, parts having been constructed as described, the locking-bend 8 Patented J an. 23,1917. Application filedAugust so, 1916, Serial No. 117,645.
isinserted into the locking-groove 3 and secured in" place therein against lateral 'displacement, by means of a flat washer 9 cor responding in diameter to the hub and having a central opening 10 fitting over the said stalcingshoulder 5 which is upset to hold the washer in place. As shown, the washer 9 is provided with a cam-like operating finger 11 for the operation of the hammer, though this is not essential to my invention.-
I claim a I.
"1. The combination with a hammer-hub having a central opening for the reception of the stud upon which it oscillates and also havinga locking-groove formed in one of its faces so as to clear the said opening, of .a
. hammer-arm, hammer-tail and intermediate locking-bend made from one piece of wire, the said bendfitting into the said groove,
and means for securing the bend of the wire in the groove of the hub,
2. The combination with a hammer-hub I having a central'opening for the reception oflthe stud upon which it oscillates and also having a locking-groove formed in one of its 7 faces so as to clear the said central opening,v "and also formed with a staking-shoulder concentric with'such opening, of a one piece hammer-wire comprlsmg a hammer-arm, a hammer-tail "and an 1ntermed1ate locklngbend adapted in shape to fit into the said EMIL MUOKLE.
