- This invention consists of a device formed of two plates jointed together like a butt-hinge, one of which plates is to be let into the side of a window-sash, the hinge being placed next to the casing, theother plate being free and provided with a right-angle flange at its upper or lower end, which flan ge, when the free plate is turned back against the casing, enters one oi' several slots cut in the latter for the reception of the ilange, and thus fastens the window.

IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,098, dated November 21, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN C. HANNA, of Rossville, in the county of Allamakee and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Sash- Fastener 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hinged fastener.
This invention consists of a device formed of two plates jointed together like a butt-hinge, one of which plates is to be let into the side of a window-sash, the hinge being placed next to the casing, theother plate being free and provided with a right-angle flange at its upper or lower end, which flan ge, when the free plate is turned back against the casing, enters one oi' several slots cut in the latter for the reception of the ilange, and thus fastens the window.
Referring to the drawing, c is a window-sash; b, the metal plate let into the side of the same, and there secured. c is the other leaf hinged to the inner edge of the plateb. d is the rightmost securely. On turning the plate c forward I the sash is unlocked, and, as the plate c remains j ust where it is left, both hands may be employed in raising' the window to the desired height. When this has been reached the sash is fastened by turning the plate backward again.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
