BACK-BAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 2, 1917.
Application filed November 23, 1914, Serial No. 873,595. Renewed June 12, 1916. Serial No. 103,338.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, DANIEL H. HARDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Banks, in the county of Pike, State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Bands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in harness and particularly to back bands.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel device of this character which will readily conform to a large extent to the horses back.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, and which can be readily manipulated and consequently repaired at a comparatively low cost.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a band made in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 4 4: of Fig. 3.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for Referring'particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10, 11, 12 and 13 represent respectively a plurality of elongated rust proof plates suitably hinged together as at 14. Suitably secured to the under sides of the' plates and extending the full length of the series is a batting 15. Secured to each of the members 10 and 13 adjacent their inner ends are the tubular guys or terrets 16. Secured to the outer' ends of the plates 10 and 13 are upwardly directed hooks 17.
By providing a plurality of hinged plates, the device will more readily conform to the curvature of the horses back, while the batting eiifectively protects the horses back from rubbing.
What is claimed is:
A back band comprising a plurality of pairs of hingedly connected plates, the upper plates of each pair being pivotally connected, a strip of batting contacting with and common to said plates, and means for connecting the batting to the plates adjacent their hinged connections.
In testimony whereof, I aiiiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
