Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed December 8, 1916. Serial 0. 65,707.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUs A. DYBLIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning-Doors for Hot-Blast Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hot blast stoves, and. has particular reference to a novel mounting of the door which closes the cleansaid stove. lhese doors are commonly mounted for sliding movement across the openings, being hung on rollers which engage a track secured to the walls of the stove, or to the door frame. In order to make a blast-tight joint in the door and in the frame, it is common to provide a packing material, such as asbestos, at the point of engagement between the door and frame, this packing being dovetailed into an annu; lar groove in the door and adapted to project beyond the face of the door. In rolling ,the door tocover the opening, the asbestospacking is frequently bruised and destroyed by contacting the frame.
An object so my invention is, therefore, to provide'means whereby the door in its movement transversely of the opening shall be caused to move away from the frame immediately at the beginning of its sliding movement.
The invention vwill be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 isan elevation of a fragment of a hot blast stove to which my improvement has beenapplied; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is an elevation taken at right angles to that of Fig.1; and Fig. 4: is an enlarged sectional view showing a fragment of the lower portion of the door and frame.
In the drawings, the stove is indicated at 10, the opening into which is bounded by a tubular flanged portion 11. Secured to this tubular portion through the medium of the outer flange 12, is a door frame 13. A door 14 is provided as a closure for the opening through the frame, this door being of circular form in the present instance and being mounted for sliding movement across the opening by means of a bracket 15, a
Due to the position of the deflected-portions of the track and guide, a movement of the door to the right, as viewed in Fig. 1, will result in the door being swung away from the door frame, whereupon it may be slid transversely as desired, without danger of injuring the packing material.
It will be understood, of course, that the form and arrangement of the door and opening may be changed to suit difierent conditions, and I consider such modifications within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a furnace wall having an opening therein, a frame bounding said opening, a straight track mounted above said opening, a track mounted below said opening, said latter track having a curved or deflected portion, movement on said straight track, said door having a projection engaging said curved track, said latter track being so located as to positively retain said door in an inclined position when out of register with said opening, and packing material carried by said door and adapted to seal the same in its position over said opening, substantially as described.
2; In a hot blast stove, the combination of a wall providing an opening, a track mounted above said opening, a door adapted to he slid on said track and mounted for limited swinging movement from the bottom of said door outwardly, a track mounted below said opening and being provided with a laterally deflected portion for cooperation with said door to cause the same to swing away from a door mounted for sliding said well, and packing material carriedby Signed at Joliet, I1l.-, this 29th day Said don, thenrranigemefnt beigg such that Nov., 1915. I as the oor is move 7 in rent 0 said opening it is permitted to swing on its point of JULIUS support and bring the packing material Witnesses: v into engagement wlth the wall surrounding THOMAB'J SAMPSON,
said opening, substantially as described. v WILBU'R C. FRY, Jr.
