One of the posts or supports is provided with a tension device 17 to enable the track to be stretched to the desired tension. The hangers are preferably connected by a longitudinal bracing bar or member 18 extending over the receptacle or bucket and secured between the upper portions of the diverging arms 10. The diverging arms have lower attaching portions 19 which are riveted or otherwisesecured to the outer faces of the side walls of the bucket or receptacle `and the track is preferably supported at one or more points by posts 2O provided with horizontal arms 21 carrying an approximately L-shaped bracket 22 having an upwardly extending terminal supporting portion 23 provided with a forked upper end 24 to receive the track which may be secured in the fork of the supporting bracket by any suitable means. The Vhorizontal arm 21 which extends outwardly from the upper portion of the post 20 is preferably braced by a bar or member 25 arranged at an inclination and extending upwardly from the post to the outer portion of the arm 21. Any number of theV intermediate supports may be employed for maintaining the track 14 in substantially a horizontal position.
The hinged dumping bottom sections 4 are braced at free inner portions by transverse bars 26 having upwardly extending terminal portions 27 secured to the outer faces of the sides or wings 7 and provided with terminal eyes 28 into which are linked branches 29 of chains 30 located at opposite sides of the bucket or receptacle and sup` ported centrally of the upper portions of the side walls 2 by suitable pulleys 31 and extending along the side walls from the pulleys 3l to one end of the bucket orreceptacle and passing around corner pulleys 32 of a horizontal supporting bar or member 33. The horizontal supporting bar or member 33 which is suitably secured to the contigu-v ous end wall of the bucket or receptacle Vat the top thereof is provided at opposite sides of the center with pulleys 34 and the said chains 30 are guided over the said pulleys 34 and extend downwardly to and are connected with a slidable sleeve or member 35.
Instead of employing chains the flexible connection 30 may be constructed of any other suitable material such as flexible wire cables, ropes or the like and the side pulleys 31 are mounted in suitable brackets 36 preferably constructed of strap metal as shown but any other suitable material may of course be employed for this purpose.
The corner pulleys 33 which are arranged horizontally are mounted in corner recesses 37v of the supporting Vbar or member 33'and Vthe flexible connections are retained on .the
pulleys 32 by a guard 38 consisting of metallic straps and also forming bearings for the upper ends of the pivots or spindles 39 of the pulleys 32. The pulleys 34 are mounted in suitable brackets 40 andV are'located at opposite sides of a central recess 41 into which extends the upper end'of a vertical bar or member 42 which forms a guide Vfor the slidable sleeve 35. The upper end 43 is reduced to form a tenon and is secured in a mortise 44 in the supportingbar or member 33 atcthe top of the central recess 41. The guide pulleys Vare preferably flanged Vas shown andthe flexible connections 30 move over the said pulleys when the slidable sleeve or member 35 travels upwardly and downwardly along the guide bar or member 42. The vertical guide bar or member 42 is Y arranged in spaced relation withthe adj acent end wall of the bucket or receptacle. rlhe lower end of the vertical guide bar 42 which is provided with a recess 45 to receivey an arm 46 of a catch 47 is mounted betweenV brackets 48 and 49. Thebrackets are ap-V proximately L-shaped -and are riveted or otherwise secured to the adjacent end wall of thebucket or receptacle and the bracket Y 49V ils provided at the top and bottomrwithv horizontal pivot 51 which extends throughthe guide bar and the brackets 48 and 49.V The upperend of the bodyV portion of theV catch is provided with a tooth 52 for engagcoiled spring 54`is connected at itswupper end with one end of a rope V55 or othersuitV` able flexible connection. The coiled spring is interposed between the guidebar and the lng a recess 53 of the slidable sleeve35 and the said catch Vwhich is maintained in en-V gagement with-the recess of the sleeve by a lower end of the'catch for Yurging the upper f end inwardly into engagement with the slid-v able sleeve 35. The recess 53 forms a shoulder to engage with the tooth 52 but any other form of shoulder may of course be provided. When the sleeveis moved downwardly onthe guide bar the flexible connections 30 are caused to swing the dumping bottom sections to their closed positions and when the catch is withdrawn from engagementV with the sleeve the latter is released and permits the dumping bottom sections of f the bucket' orV receptacle to swing downwardly under the influence of the contents' which are thereby discharged fromV the bucket or receptacle. ment of the sleeve on the guide bar 42 is limited by a stop 56 carrying a cushioning device 57 which is adaptedto absorb and dissipate the jar incident to the stopping of the slidable sleeve. The stop 56 preferably consists of a relatively fixed sleeve or collar provided with a set screw 58 which is adapted to secure the collar 56 at diierent points along the guide bar to limit the opening movement of the dumping bottomsection. By this construction the bottom section may y be permitted to open completely for discharging the contents of the bucket or receptacle at one point or' they may be partially opened to scatter the contents of the bucket or receptacle over the surface of the ground while the bucket or receptacle is traveling along the track.
The cushion 57 preferably consists of a coiled spring disposed on the guide bar 42 and secured at its upper end to the adjustable collar 56 but any other suitable form of cushion may of course be employed for this purpose.
The rope 55 extends from the catch-47 to a guide pulley 5S of the post or support 15 and then passes through the spaces between the diverging arms of the hangers of the bucket or receptacle and extends to a guide pulley 59 which is `mounted on the other post or support 16. From this ,point the operating rope extends to the bucket or receptacle and is connected with the same by means of a screw 60 or other suitable fastening means mounted on the outer or front hanger. By this construction the operating rope is connected with the bucket or receptacle at the opposite ends thereof and it is adapted to be pulled upon to move the receptacle or bucket forwardly to the point able sleeve and dumping sections of the bottom by pulling upon the end of the rope extending to the catch 47. After the contents of the bucket or receptacle have been discharged, the end of the rope which is connected with the rcatch is pulled upon to return the bucket or receptacle to the starting point. A single rope is adapted to serve as an operating or actuating rope and also as a trip rope for 4dumping the receptacle. The operator may stand at the post or support 15 and move the bucket or receptacle forwardly to the point of discharge, andthe bucket or receptacle is located at an elevation sufiicient to be out of the way of the stock. The contents of the bucket or receptacle may be discharged at one point or it may be scattered over the ground by Vlimiting the opening movement of the dumpingV sections and vmo-ving the bucket or receptacle along while the contents are being discharged through a restricted opening or outlet. The slidable sleeve is provided with a suitable handle 61 by means of which the sleeve is moved down- -wardly to the lower portion of the guide bar 42 and the catch automatically engages the sleeve to lock the hinged bottom or dumping sections in their closed position.
That is claimed is 1. A carrier of the class described including a receptacle having a dumping bottom, a vertically slidable member mounted on the receptacle, flexible connections extending from the said member to the dumping bottom, guiding means for the flexible connections, a catch arranged to engage the slidable member for locking the same against vertical movement, and a combined operating and trip rope secured at one end to the catch and connected at the otherA end 4with the receptacle and extending to points at opposite sides of the receptacle and adapted to be pulled in one direction to move the receptacle outward, and in the opposite direction to trip the catch and also to return Y the receptacle to its initial position.
2. A carrier of the class described including` a bucket having hinged bottom sections, a vertically slidable member mounted on the bucket at one of the end walls thereof between the top and bottom of the same, flexible connections connecting the vertically slidable member with the bottom sections, guide pulleys for the flexible connections, a catch arranged to engage the slidable member for locking the same against movement and means for releasing the catch.
3. A carrier of the class described including a bucket having a dumping bottom, a vertical guide mounted on one of the walls of the bucket, a member slidable along the guide, flexible connections extending from the said member to the dumping bottom, guide pulleys for the flexible connections, a catch for holding the said member against movement, and means for limiting the movement of the said member.
4. A carrier of the class described including a receptacle having a dumping bottom, a vertical guide carried by the receptacle, a member slidable along the guide and connected with the dumping bottom, a catch for holding the said member against movement, and an adjustable stop having a cushion for limiting the movement of the said member.
5. A carrier of the class described including a bucket having a dumping bottom, a vertical guide bar mounted on the exterior of one of the end walls of the bucket, a sleeve slidable along the guide bar, flexible connections connecting the sleeve with the dumping bottom, guide pulleys for the flexible connections, and a catch for locking the sleeve against movement.

A carrier of the class described including a bucket provided with hinged bottom sections, a vertical guide mounted on the exterior of one of the walls of the bucket or receptacle, a sleeve slidable on the guide, flexible connections extending from the sleeve and having branches connected to the hinged bottom sections, means for guiding the flexible connections and a catch for locking the sleeve against movement.
7.V A carrier-of the class described including a bucket or receptacle provided With hinged bottom sections, a vertical guide mounted on the bucket or receptacle, a sleeve slidable on the guide, flexible connections extending from the sleeve and having branches connected to the hinged bottom sections, side pulleys located at opposite sides of the bucket or receptacle and receiving the flexible connections and corner and central pulleys located at one end ofthe bucket or receptacle and guiding the flexible connections to the said sleeve.
8. A carrier of the class described including a bucket or receptacle provided With bottom sections,V at their outer ends, a supporting bar mounted on the bucket or receptacle 'at one end thereof and provided with central and corner pulleys, a vertical guide bar secured to the supporting bar and extending downwardly therefrom, brackets supporting the lower end of the guide bar, a sleeve slidable on the guide bar, guide pulleys mounted on the side Walls of the bucket or receptacle and located above the inner end of the bottom sections, iiexible connections connected to the said sleeves and arbranches connected tothe bottom sections of the bucketor receptacle and means'for locking the sleeve against movement.
9. A carrier of the class described including a Vbucket or receptacle having bottom sections hinged at their outer ends, a, vertif cal guide mounted on the bucket or receptacle at one end thereof, flexible connections extending' from the bottom sections, a sleeve slidable along the guide and connected With the flexible connections, guiding means for the said flexible connections, and an adjustable stop having a cushioning devicelocated LOUIS H.
